SoFla game watchers - How good is this year's crop, really?

Cook, Rudolph, Chad were all considered solid but not "elite" at this time last year.

Let the crop develop before you judge it.

Not true. Cook and Chad were always considered elite, Rudolph is the one who made a HUGE jump.

Yes true Chad was a borderline 3-4* and ended up a 5*. Go to his 247 page he wasn't in top 250 this time last year.

Cook wasn't in top 150 when committed to Clemson if I recall correctly.

Weren't Yearby, McDermott and Darling the prospects who were considered elite from the snap?

Where did those guys go? Who were the elite recruiters who pulled those guys?

The "hunger" thing is BS. The Rivals camp is just another fabricated event to boost rankings and I feel like there have been more camps than usual this year. For the bigger prospects like Irvin, Cronkrite, SBB, etc. they have nothing to prove at these camps so a lot of them either don't show up (which will drop their rankings) or just don't perform with much added incentive if they already have the big offers.

A recruit said it best yesterday when he tweeted, "Rankings can't save you on Friday nights."

^
Hopefully we're recruiting that recruit.

Swag - Best DB CLASS in a long time....alot of oos colleges can come down and feast at db this yr....as um, fsu, uf cant land all this talent at that position. I didnt even consider sw fla either (Naples,Ft Myers, Immokalee) as they have some good db prospects as well.

DL class- Underwhelming, a few names here and there but aint much their too fight for in s.fla imo @ this point. Strowbridge @ DE, hopefully a few names pop up later. I don tlike any s.fla dt's so far. Glad we jumped on the kid out of Manatee.

OL class- Leeward Brown is a solid get. There are a few other guard prospects locally (Strachan, and im sure STA will have one or two kids we give alook this spring) But this class is not as good as last years..but still better than the current dl crop

Lb- A solid group, and s.,fla actually has some SIZE in their lbs this yr. Not the usual 185-195 pd lb group we usually produce. Lane, Coney, Sheppard, Hart and a few others are all sitting around 220 right now as JRS. Overall a solid group and we have one commit already.

QB- a Legit 5 star prospect already.(Gibson) 2 solid 3 star level prospects in Palm Beach in Parr and Jackson. Broward has Stanley who looks to probabl be a 3 star kid. Its a solid group to work with locally. Last yrs qb group may have had more depth though. S.FLa is starting to produce solid qbs though, we might can prosper on bringing ina local qb every other class.

rb- Last yrs rb group was insane. Miami Central had 3 div 1 rbs on their team alone. This yrs group doesnt have the elite prospects but their still a good group of 3 star level guys at thi spoint. Cronkite and Scarlett can be elite level later down the road.

wr-S.fla will ALWAYS have wr's no need to comment their. Their is still a good crop of those. We have one commit in a possesion guy, and are on the hook of naother in Devante Peete. Guys like Vante Phillips, Peete are elite imo...SBB, Ridley, even a Durante who im not big on...would go to other states like Tx,CA, GA and run roughshod over dbs.

Some great points by Token and Prop Joe. To add on to what they said, we are not great in many positions this year. (OL, DL, LB, RB) But we are SUPER elite in others. (DB and WR) And that is great news for us because we will need both of those VERY bad after next year. We will get the pick of the litter in both categories.

I for one, thought last years class was a tad bit overrated. I wasnt high on Lane. Thought, as PropJoe likes to say, the "competition caught up to him" in that last year. Rudolph was the board darling. Never thought he was elite either. Just a great WR who will have a solid college career. I think Ridley is better then both. I did think that Cook, CThomas, and Valentine were SUPER elite. And that Yearby, Sony and DJackson were Elite guys.

Now are there any SUPER elite guys this year? Probably just Ridley. SBB and Phillips could be elite but someone said something about DPhillips that scared the **** outta me because the more I see him play, the more I agree with this poster..They said Phillips reminded them of Aldarious Johnson. Uh-oh. I have not looked at him the same since.

But there are alot of great players down here this year that can solidify our return to the top if they all decide to come.

Aldarius with the right mindset would have been a solid to good wr though. D had a solid freshman yr, just didnt prosper from that poing. Phillips might be a bit faster, and the culture is different....Aldarius before not playing his sr year as a sacrificial lambwas wearing a black shirt for Golden and working hard.

Phillips is more sudden than Aldarius.
