I kid you not Miami Central has goten about 30+ transfers as of late.

This kid has transferred to central twice in the last few months...went to sta and wasnt gonna start after leaving central earlier in the spring..n playing at southridge last year where he got his offers.smh

Should’ve stayed at the Ridge.

What does the is mean exactly ?
b.s.

it will be all the division guys in a playoffs...supposed to be a best vs the best....the issue is it will be based on Max Preps who doesnt know sh*t and based out of california.

Soo it would be like max preps is the cfp committee giving ranking based on strength of schedule and their ranking.

Well if I was a kids parent , I wouldn’t risk getting hurt and lose his scholarship for added games

south fla parents dont care they have 7 yrt olds with 14 game szns...**** all of the youth parks are already practicing again RIGHT NOW. smh
Wonder why kids get burnt out or hurt . I can’t see a kid who has a full ride playing after the fact esp with nil involved unless they get paid

No. The privates can still do whatever the **** they want. And then the highly governed (and low paid) public schools will still have to play them in the playoffs.
It’s bs , STA should be in the same category img is in . Appreciate the info coach

Funny enough, kid just flipped from usf to east Carolina—I’m guessing the auburn staff didn’t want him. USF ends up flipping a qb committed to Pitt, and now Pitt is about to flip this kid from east Carolina even though he has been committed for less than 2 weeks lolol

The public schools are basically doing whatever they want as well. All the kids in a county are piling up into one school for football, a different one for basketball, volleyball, softball, etc.
It's just one example, but let's not pretend like Bridgewater was just "helping out" some needy kids with food and rides.
Lakeland has been similar for decades. Everyone piled into Lakeland HS for football, Bartow for softball, Winter Haven for girls' basketball, etc.
Central Florida and in particular Orlando are horrible right now with the haves vs have nots in many sports for public school.
I'm not as familiar with what goes on in North Florida but I'm sure it's not much different.
It's an issue for private and public schools alike, once they got away from the transfer and play sub varsity for a year rule it became the wild west in Florida.
15-20 years ago, I used to tell other coaches in other states about how things are done in Florida and their jaws would drop. And now, its 100x worse.
Not trying to start an argument as Ive been involved in public and private school athletics over the years of coaching and have found everyone becomes tribal in their finger pointing similar to politics but it's become almost impossible to become great in a sport for a season or more unless something unethical takes place anymore. But I will give you this, the private schools always had somewhat of an advantage with the radius they could draw from but they also per capita had much more scrutiny from the FHSAA when it came to investigations and violations. And the very elite ones are very difficult to beat in a playoff setting. Hopefully the new elite playoff bracket will pull a few of them away into it and make it more reasonable for other schools to make a run at a title.

Irrespective of private versus public, the regulations for restricting a teenager’s ability to play a varsity sport like they do in California and Texas is ridiculous.

That’s how we get crazy examples like Ismael Camara moving to Texas from France and having to be a five star OLineman playing JV as a sophomore. More broadly, it’s a rule rooted in fear and control.

good lord…..their computer model would’ve excluded 14-1 STA (who lost to Mater Dei 26-23 to start the season) from their top eight teams in the state of Florida.

This doesn’t even make sense to me. They say the list above would’ve been the top eight teams via maxpreps at the end of the regular season; and the list below are the top eight teams after states.

So STA wins states including a 29-0 championship game victory and they aren’t included in the top eight teams?

Guaranteed outrage when that first 8 comes out. Deland went undefeated in the regular season then lost to lake Mary’s in the playoffs; who lost to Vero Beach in the state championship game. Yet, this computerized model tells us Deland is the number 1 team in the state.

If I’m reading this correctly, this doesn’t takeaway from traditional state championship classification brackets. In every other sport except football, I’d say this is a good idea because the risk is minimal and the competition could be pivotal for extra player development or collegiate opportunities.

Football offers those benefits too; however, the injury/pain risk is far greater. 3 extra games is A LOT to understate it, and so many of these top athletes are already trying to catch up to speed with winter sports that are ongoing while fall finishes up.

Moreover, state champions are often decided in the first few weeks of December. Add three weeks to that period and you begin to mess with Christmas/New Year’s/family time, the select few trying to play in all-star games which now includes elite juniors, and the broader bunch of any D1 senior who plans on graduating early for spring enrollment.
Now a lot of parents/kids won’t care about 1-3 potential extra games to the 1-5 extra playoff games; so that’s that & I’ll put that to the side. The timing alone will conflict with other athletic priorities so interested to see how they schedule all of this out.

You could always be eligible right away in Florida if you made a physical address move, they just prevented varsity play for a year once you started 9th grade if you transferred without that. There was an appeals process for the case you mentioned above, but due to a physical move it wouldn't have been necessary.
I can't speak for Texas or California and their rules. I just know it seemed like a much more level playing field in Florida back then (as fair as it could be) with only 4 classifications also so the vast majority of all private schools were together in one bracket and all the public schools seemed somewhat to take turns on being the dominant team in the area for a 2-3 year span. The only schools that had a gripe were the public small panhandle schools that had to face all the private schools, but they formed their own bracket and seemed to satisfy them.

Above are the top 8 teams when the regular season ends according to the new open division rules using last season’s results.

Below are the top 8 teams after the state playoffs.

Somehow a team that doesn’t win states jumped up from outside the top 8 to the #1 ranking — above the team who won states for their classification (Vero Beach); while the team who knocked them outta the playoffs (Lake Mary’s) is nowhere to be found.

School choice wasn’t originally meant to be an open invitation for sports recruiting but the way the law is written allows it to be. You can technically attend any public school in the state that is below capacity (most public schools in Dade and Broward are well below) as long as you provide your own transportation. If anything, it’s helped even the playing field against the private schools. Before school choice the private schools could hoard talent and public schools could only play the kids that lived in their district. The talent was more spread out and there were no super teams that stood a chance against the private schools. I remember Dan Morgan playing at Taravella in the 90’s. That would NEVER happen today.

Yeah, the formula they use to rank the teams is a secret and they won't share it with anyone which I was never comfortable with. We requested it to better understand what we needed to focus on to put ourselves in the best situation and was told it would not be released to anyone.
They say it's a combo of record and SOS, but in my experience winning games far and away trumped SOS. If you have a better SOS, you still need to win the games regardless or you will see teams ahead of you with a weaker SOS but better record.

I’m familiar with the italicized yet not the underline. However, i wasn’t a public school player and am not familiar with the FLHS sports landscape pre-2010.

I hear you on your main point though
