So! You Insiders (and others)

I've heard Stavridis has all but been eliminated. TIFWIW

I heard it wasn't as much a done deal as it was trending to be but he's still in the running. His perceived moderatism and not far left enough stance is hurting him. But the money and academic strengths he would bring with military, federal, and Tufts connections is too compelling.

Gregory Maggs, Dean of Law at George Washington University, and Davison Douglas, Dean of Law at the College of William and Mary are also being considered.

That just kills me. I'm starting to wonder if the BOTs are second + generation in their families who started out with money. I wonder how many of them put their blood, sweat and tears to make the business/businesses prosper. I'm going out on a limb here an saying less than 25%.

Why would Miami want anyone who leans anything but left to run their university?

Why are they only looking at Deans of Law Schools?

Because past presidents have been hired to make their respective fields special academic focuses. Pearson=Marine biology, Foote=Business, Shalala=Medicine. Now with the law school, which currently has a smudged reputation not because of academics but because of sleazy graduates like the woman who was Shapiro's lawyer, needs to pumped up made a marquee school.

When it comes to graduate schools, you want to make your medical and school and law schools elite first because there's no undergrad degree form them like there is for other basic subject like English and Biology. By doing that, the undergrad departments become the focuses next and feed off the new money line.

A lot of the Board are children of money or spoiled in some other manner. That being said, there's a new young faction on the Board who are willing to get aggressive to improve the school academically and athletically and Stavridis has the connections to make that happen.

The dismal failure of UHealth and the dedicated will to stick with it as it fails has made some of the older Board shy to make aggressive acts and Shalala would torpedo any motion to renounce UHealth and she would obliterate whoever suggested it.

@dfreshhookup: Because there is a completely untapped wealth of resources financially, academically, and athletically that becomes available by at least taking a middle political road and not necessarily a extreme left one.

Donna Shalala was far left but was coming out of a Cabinet position and presidential administration that gave her access to tremendous amounts of money, academics, influence, and political clout that has run dry starting three years ago. To hire somebody with similar access who while not as far left as the recent attitude of the school but actually moderate enough to pull from both political spectrums and an incredibly strong and respected military tradition seems like the overwhelming best interest of the school.

I'd been told months ago that Stavridis was all but a done deal. Lots could have changed since then, but happy for the info, Ted.

Rooting on Stav.

Whoever they pick, it'll be a mistake. These clowns can't chew gum and walk at the same time. In my experience, trust fund babies are usually selfish little p#icks and brain-dead drunks besides. (And I've seen a lot of them as I grew up in VA foxchaser country.) This country, as a whole, tends to put these idiots in charge of things simply on family names alone. (Guess who will be running for President in 2016!) Hence the mess we're in today. Doesn't matter if they're left wing or right wing, as without exception, the only thing that matters is they are half-a##ed.

Unfortunately, I foresee a day when FIU takes over UM's dying and bankrupt campus. It's too bad. Things don't have to be that way at all, but unless this school gets some better people running it, it may happen....and sooner than we think.

You can see in the way this football program has been run since the 2001 season just a small example of the total ineptitude of this bunch of dolts. Just ask yourselves: Would any other university in the country have allowed a top level program (and moneymaker) like that deteriorate to the damned joke it is today? I believe the answer is "NO".

Seems to me that it'd be tough for Miami to pull interest from those who are anything more than very lightly leaning right, even with a former military man running the show. Especially one who has strong ties to the Clintons and who certainly isn't the douchebragger type of solider the right loves to canonize.

Could you please expound on the bolded part? I'm not sure exactly what you are trying to get across.

Miami isn't going to see a significant increase in right leaning donors with a moderate military man. If we could reanimate the corpse of Chris Kyle or find someone that toes the line of God, Country and killing brown people in Iraq to protect my freedoms, we'd certainly see a boost from that side of folks.

How many white people are there to kill in Iraq?

Not nearly enough, and that's why we're over there I think.

By that logic why aren't we in Mexico too?

Because one Texas is more than enough already.

Has the University selected our new President yet?

I know the new President won't take over until like - June - but they gotta have a decision pretty soon, if it's not already determined and unannounced.

If not - who's the front runner?

Want to know if I need to be thinking about shooting myself this Summer.

What you should be doing is shooting Bigfoot!!

My take: Whoever they pick will make Shalala look like a football fan and Tea Party leader.

I predict a female, Hispanic *******. Seriously.

NO WAY they pick anyone who is not WAY more radical left than Shalala, and another white President, no matter how far left she might be, would be unacceptable.
