Has the University selected our new President yet?

I know the new President won't take over until like - June - but they gotta have a decision pretty soon, if it's not already determined and unannounced.

If not - who's the front runner?

Want to know if I need to be thinking about shooting myself this Summer.

The school always takes this slow like they did when hiring Donna Shalala. They said there would be an announcement in in late February to early March but I would expect it to be pushed back a little bit until late March early February.

Admiral James G. Stavridis, Dean of the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, is the frontrunner/shortlist option and as of now I would expect him to land it but that is subject to change.

He is from West Palm Beach and definitely has a pre-existing relationship with Butch Davis. I am trying to find out close they are.

Great!

Mp reason Butch couldn't come back, unless UM wanted him to teach 13th Century Literature.

Shalala was hired in November I believe. These are not positions you can just give two weeks notice on. My guess is we know by 3/1. I still do not believe that Stavridis is the frontrunner. He may be, I'm just skeptical.

I just pray and hope the next prez is just as passionate towards atheltics as they are in academics. At the end of the day the players involved in athletics are students just as well. Distancing or not putting priority towards the football team is a bad mistake. The football team put the university on the map and is a part of the culture of south florida. We are a south florida school and having the football team in shambles is pretty depressing considering that football is a major passion for a lot of people down there. Be boss and put emphasis on having both a top notch academic and athletic institution. For ***** sake get back to our roots.

I've heard Stavridis has all but been eliminated. TIFWIW

I heard it wasn't as much a done deal as it was trending to be but he's still in the running. His perceived moderatism and not far left enough stance is hurting him. But the money and academic strengths he would bring with military, federal, and Tufts connections is too compelling.

Gregory Maggs, Dean of Law at George Washington University, and Davison Douglas, Dean of Law at the College of William and Mary are also being considered.

Wow, they really want someone with a law school connection

Jay Pearson was hired because he was a marine biologist and the school wanted that to be a focus.

Tad Foote was hired to make business a focus.

Donna Shalala was hired to make medicine a focus.

The next president will more than likely be hired to make the law school a focus.

Notice how all of those guys are at schools where sports are nothing--Tufts (sounds like a hemorrhoid cream); GWU; and Bill and Mary.

That should tell you guys all you need to know about the continued direction of UM.

I'll put my 2 cents in about that but Admiral Stavridis at least played a sport in college and his family were, if not still are, season ticket holders for Miami.

Why are they only looking at Deans of Law Schools?

That just kills me. I'm starting to wonder if the BOTs are second + generation in their families who started out with money. I wonder how many of them put their blood, sweat and tears to make the business/businesses prosper. I'm going out on a limb here an saying less than 25%.

Tufts is in the nescac conference which is arguably the most competitive D3 conference
