So what's up with Lamar Miller?

I hope to god they don't resign Olivier Vernon. Really want the Raiders to get him.

I don't see Miller returning though, because the Dolphins only have $7M in cap space. Cowboys should make a move for him, but they only have $10M in cap space, and Miller is likely to get a $5.5M/yr contract.

I Could see the Bears making an offer as he's younger and cheaper than Forte (who they wont resign) and they have the 3rd most salary cap space. The Giants, Colts, and Texans should also make a play for him.

Bears fan here. They won't sign Miller...Jeremy Langford proved himself more than ready to be the lead back and KaDeem Carey actually showed up last year after what I thought was a wasted draft pick. They have WAY too many pressing needs at LB, Edge rusher, LB, DB, even OL...you name it. I'd love to see Miller go to a contender and be the speedy half of a 1-2 punch. He's not reliable enough to get 25 carries a game week after week and not get hurt...but not many in the NFL are anymore.

I heard Gase really wants Miller to stay...he likes the 1-2 combo potential of him and Ajayi...also they may franchise tag ov

I hope/think the Bucs will make a shot at Miller if we cant resign Dougie....

Would love that... Doug Martin proved his self this year though. Been down on him after his rookie season but this year he was very good. He needs to stop fumbling though

man what happened to Mike James?
Man i wish i could tell you. In '13 when Doug Martin missed most of the year, Bobby Rainey and Mike James shared the load. Mike James had 60 carries for a 4.9 avg. Then after that season, Schiano is fired, Lovie is hired, and thus begin Mike James journey of floating back and forth between the practice squad and the active roster.

If I'm Miller I would stay away from the Dolphins.

Agreed. Amazing how underutilized he was in a lot of their losses this past season. Played incredibly well when he actually got considerable touches.

It was rumored that they gave Miller less touches so teams wouldn't be as interested in Miller so they could resign him at a lesser price. While that was kinda' smart by the old staff, it also forced the team to throw a lot more which doesn't help the above-average QB in Tannehill and the porous O-Line.

You also have to take into account that the Dolphins just hired a new coach so Miller's utilization could increase.

Will the Dolphins resign him?

He would be a perfect fit in Dallas.

He wants to get paid & he want to be "the man." The problem is, this isn't the early 1990s any more. We will see very few free agent RBs make big money any more. Lamar is a victim of his circumstances...

I see your point, its why I think the Raiders wont make a move for any RBs except maybe for a reliable guy like James Starks at like $2M/yr. However the difference is Murray has at least proven himself over the course of a full season and reached 1k yards. Langford had a solid couple weeks when Forte went down, but not enough to trust him to be "the guy" after you let Forte walk. They obviously need to pay Alshon whatever he wants to stay, and need to get more guys, but you guys have a lot of money and can easily spend it on Miller if its around $5M/yr.

I dont think you realize just how many holes the Bears have to fill. If they add any RB depth, they'll find a cheap true backup guy....scrap heap kinda guy.

I WISH lamar got 15 carries a game. LOL

dude was severely misused.
Lamar needs at minimum 20 touches a game...hes a solid pass catcher. about 15-18 rushes.3-5 catches a game.

they would tag ov..pay him the 11 for a year... Lamar aint getting more than 4 on the market..dolphins could afford it.

yeah but the biggest hole is the one left by Forte. They really need a feature back, so you don't have to rely on Cutler. Signing Miller for $5M/yr would be a good move imo.

Miller is probably worth $5m a year but not for the 2016 Bears. You should shift your ideas to a different team for him.

Lamar is probably the best running back wanted in the league right now. He is easily the fastest and is still quite young very little burn on him. I don't understand how Miami hasn't made him a rich man at this point. OV is not as good as people think, he is very replaceable.

I disagree to an extent. I think opposing fan-bases are overrating OV thinking that he's going to be a double-digit sack and beast in the run game when he cannot provide both consistently. With that being said, good DEs are not easy to find especially one who that has improved every year like Vernon. Miller is mostly wanted because of his speed. I thought he only provided speed but his development is pretty outstanding. Improved vision, strength, physicality, and as a receiver.

The Dolphins need to try resign both imo. The team has a big problem with letting talented players go. Hopefully that changes with new management.

Jamal Charles is definitely faster than Lamar Miller.
Vernon is 25 years old and has been pretty **** good. The last 3 years he's had 25.5 sacks. He's obviously not a >$10M/yr type of guy. But ****, I'd pay him $8M/yr to be a Raider. It's not like really good DE's enter FA all that often. He had the 3rd highest grade from PFF this year amongst FA's. After Cameron Wake was hurt and Vernon had to take his place as the top pass rusher in week 8, he led the NFL in QB Hurries (more than Miller, Watt, Mack, etc with 64).

Wouldn't pay him $10 mil a year??? Vernon is going to sign for over $12 mil a year wherever he lands. The Eagles just re-signed Vinny Curry to a 5 year $47.5 mil contract and Vernon has had double his production over the last four years. Curry is just a pass rush specialist who hasn't even started a game in the NFL while Vernon is a very good full time DE that plays also is solid against the run.

The franchise tag is going to pay a DE $15 mil for 2016. Even the non-exclusive tag will cost over $12 mil a year. And the Fins still may have to go that route. I think Lamar gets closer to $6 mil IF he hits the market, but if anyone is going to give a hometown discount he would so maybe he stays with the Fins for close to $4 mil. Even Shane Vereen and CJ Spiller are making $4 million a year, and Miller is a far more complete and healthy back than either.

12 Million average would make him a top 5 paid DE in the NFL. He doesn't play like a top 5 DE, so I'm not really sure why you think he's definitely getting that. Sure he might get over 12 in a season or two, but I doubt he gets that on average. And if he does, He's being overpaid.
That $8M/yr is what I want to sign him to, which would be amazing. More than likely he signs a deal just under $10M/yr. Derek Wolfe just resigned with the Broncos for $9.1M/yr. And Spotrac assigned Vernon a market value of $9.6M.
So I think I'm pretty accurate. He doesn't deserve over $10M yet. Not to say a team wont offer that. At least the Raiders have the money to go out and sign him if he wants over 10M, I don't think the Dolphins do.

I think he'd get more cash if they gave him the **** ball. Hoping he stays home, but a system that would feature him would look pretty nice..

the dolphins used him like that on purpose to get him to a low number, **** at end of year they started hyping ajayi in the media...giving him more time..the same ajayi that didnt look good in preseason or practices..but late in year they were selling as next run ricky run.

lamar should get between 4-5 mill and stay home

Vernon's reportedly getting paid. The Dolphins a supposed to slap the transition tag on him which would pay him $12.37 mil for 2016, but he'll be free to negotiate a long term offer elsewhere which looks likely.

More pressing needs at G, LB, CB, and FS. I love Lamar Miller but we have a good back draft class coming and we could use that 4-5 mil on a guard

isnt it more like 15M he would be getting?

LMiller needs to leave the dolphins anyway. Go to a place that will use him better.
