So what's the difference between Lincoln Riley and Lane Kiffin?

Yep. No one comes close to being as big of a liar or two faced dirtbag than Butch. I mean, his antics make even Saban blush.

But that being said, he deserves all the credit for the 2001 greatest college football team ever.
Huh? So Butch is the biggest liar and dirtbag ever? Urban Meyer, Lane Kiffin, Saban, Brian Kelly, Jim Harbaugh, Tom Herman, Joe Paterno, Jimbo Fiser, etc...don't even come close? Come on.

I'll agree Butch was a little shady (as all coaches are) but what else did he do besides the way he left Miami for Cleveland and the scandal at UNC for which he was cleared? If you have some more examples, I'll listen.

Kiffin will always have his fan boys here on CIS. Don’t get me wrong. He’s proving to be a good coach.

No respect for the man if he bolts on Ole Miss. Zero. It’s true Ole Miss doesn’t have much recent history except for some good Hugh Freeze teams. It’s true Kiffin raised the level of the program. It’s also true Ole Miss gave Kiffin an opportunity to resurrect his career as a $EC coach. Were blue blood teams knocking down Kiffin’s office door at FAU? They’ve paid him millions of dollars and given him everything he wanted. Anybody who has information to the contrary is welcome to post a reply.

If he bolts on Ole Miss right before the playoffs he’s a worse piece of **** than when he split from Tennessee in the middle of the night so he can go back to USC. All of his talk of “there are the good old days right now” and how he’s clean and sober and resurrected as a family man goes right out the window.

Old enough to remember the "experts" on here saying Lincoln Riley was the standard for what college football coaches should be....................
USC has underperformed but you’d really have to dig and project to find ten active coaches with a better resume. If USC fires him, another P5 school will hire him immediately.

Which is quite funny because if Cristobal (and staff) keep up these types of evaluations he is basically Butch Davis.
If by being basically Butch Davis, you mean building a great team but falling short because some bum team always beats you during the regular season, then yes. I agree

2000 Washington = bum team

**** you all still get thanksgiving parties??
The owner is in all likelihood a high functioning alcoholic. It's not on Wednesday because that's always a half day and nobody would stick around for the party and he likes to drink and share stories.

I agree, I was simply pointing out the level of brilliance on this site. Mario has been compared to him a lot, not recently obviously as it stopped fitting the narrative, but it is silly because the same folks jizzing themselves over Riley would have been calling for his head the last two years.

We have dozens and dozens of Madden experts explaining everything to us exactly what Mario, Dawson, and Hetherman are doing and going to do that it’s like we’re attending every meeting in every room in the IPF.

No respect for Lane dipping’ out on Ole **** but respecting Mario departure from Oregon?

Uhm, I was serious.

It was UM during contract negotiations that forced him to take the other position.

Subsequent hires are also painfully indicative.

I seem to remember things.

Schnellenberger started almost from scratch - and it took him five years to produce a NC team. We lost a lot of games leading up to that.

AFTER Butch became our coach - we got hit by the NCAA. AFTER.

So Butch pretty much started almost from scratch - losing 31 scholarships, and after UM dragging feet to the contract window closing - low-balling him - he left.

Butch's last year - we got within one game of the 1992 National Championship - and Clappy got credit for the following year's National Championship.

So who was the best coach under similar circumstances? Schnellenberger or Davis?

I'd suggest they were not very far apart.

We went from Scratch to the Top in five years for both of them.

Oh. And who left on Thursdays to evaluate and recruit for Jimmy Johnson?
Butch Davis. He built teams, and when it came his turn - he coached them up as well.
