So what's the difference between Lincoln Riley and Lane Kiffin?

Other than the former is a an uninspiring bumpkin from West Texas and the latter is a bratty wise guy born on third base.

Each is widely recognized as an offensive wizard, but is that actually enough in itself to return a program to elite status and/or maintain dominance in this era of College Football? Sooner or later, defensive coordinators always figure out a way to contain a certain approach, scheme, alignment or play call. Geniuses come, geniuses go.

Riley and Kiffin share a disdain for recruiting and hob-nobbing with alumni or fans. Neither would ever be described as a culture-builder. Basically it's "let me stay in my corner office and draw up ways to outsmart these DC's but leave me the **** alone cause I'm not really interested in the rest of my $10M-plus job."

Is that mindset enough to get UF or LSU where they want to be or keep Ole Miss at the level the Rebels are this season?

Riley went 55-10 at OU but lost his three most significant CFP matchups to Smart, Saban and Burrow/Chase/Jefferson.

USC is stuck in neutral and the underachieving Trojans could finish outside the Top 25 for the third straight season during his four years in LA.

Why should we expect a much-prized hiring of Kiffin to do anything much better with the Tigahs or Gators?

This is CIS where every coach who hasn’t won a national championship is a “corch”. Only three active coaches have rings and two of them were CIS corches until they won (Kirby and Day) and the third (Dabo) has fallen back into the “corching” field.

Nobody is good enough for CIS besides Butch Davis.

Old enough to remember the "experts" on here saying Lincoln Riley was the standard for what college football coaches should be....................

Just a wild guess - but it's possible - POSSIBLE that Kiffin when left off the team plane - had to do some soul-searching - and mended some of his arrogant ways.

Somewhere, he figured out that offense - wielding the sword - also needed a shield - a defense.

You can't change who you are - but you can change incrementally - your needs.

Like Cristobal NEEDS to turn the dogs loose on our Offense. Give the man your Offensive Line - and let them wield them!

And Kenny D. Who I think should be on staff by the way. 🤐

I know. Butch Davis really sets a high bar.

It's almost not fair.

I remember watching a Mario-esque, missed-kneel type meltdown live when he was at ECU. It cemented my belief that he would never win anything of significance.

Lane's rep for being an a-hole has dropped way way down in actual coaching circles. He also IS a culture guy at this point, he weeds out a lot of turds from his program

Kiffin's still an immature ****wad imho — the recent Jimmy Sexton endorsed whitewashing ESPN churned out last month aside.

This is a guy just last season whose offense crapped the bed in a home loss to a garbage UK team, then was on Twitter two months later whining about Indiana getting in the CFP.

Hardly seems like a guy pushing a culture of accountability

He would be a beta on here if he didn’t fight for a playoff spot.

I’m telling you what coaches and agents say. Not ESPN.

This was after the CFP first round was over and IU was out.

Wasn't anything to fight for at that point ... just some stuff a smart-*** would post on Twitter

I hear ya.

Just not quite buying tht Kiffin's really changed, though

Ones a good HC and play caller and the other is just a good play caller.

No need to say which is which.. cause it’s pretty glaring
