So, what “good” candidates are left?

Lol you’re assuming Mario and Lane said no while Mario’s season isn’t even finished and we’re hiring an AD first. ASSumptions man

I've seen Raheem Morris' name come up as a candidate from other fans. Seems like a bright guy, he has been a DC and WR coach / Passing game coordinator in the NFL, so he seems to know about both sides of the ball well, not to mention being a young head coach for the Bucs, and overall seeming like he has a likeable personality. Anything in particular that interests you though regarding the college game? He seems to have exclusively coached in the NFL since 2007.

I heard temple is considering rehiring Manny so we can buy him back at cents to the dollar a 2nd time

As an Akron alum I can confirm. I remember freshman year tailgating and getting drunk before my first home football game. We got absolutely blown out and I decided there were better things to do with my time than go watch that team. We didn’t win a game my first two years on campus
 
Our two guys really one were guys others aren’t after. We wouldn’t land Riley even if we tried. its Mario for us and nothing changed in that aspect.

It's a good guess.. By now they'd know if Mario or Lane was realistic..they've probably been speaking to other candidates through back channels for 2 months. If Manny doesn't get fired, it's because the school couldn't lure a big enough improvement to guarantee a huge boost in performance..not one or 2 games a year, but the difference between a 7-8 win team and a 10-11 win team. Glad Blake is gone and hopefully we can get a legit AD in here who can lead well and start spending money and lure a big time coach in next year after Manny fails again.

I think there's probably 3 tiers that exist.

Tier 1 = The guys everyone's talking about (Mario and Lane) and the 1a/1b hopefuly hires
Tier 2 = The back up plans that make sense and would fit but not the splashy hire (Mark Stoops and Tom Herman)
Tier 3 = Totally random throw some sh*t at the wall and hope it sticks

At this point, if none of the T1 candidates come then I think the next realistic option is Mark Stoops. I can't imagine Stoops says no to coming here. Herman would be a nice 4th option but honestly this one would come out of left field so would require new AD to totally think outside of the box.

Beyond those 4 then I think you just have a bunch of whatevers. No immediate ties to the program. No one beating their door down to be their next HC. Just a hail mary and pray for the best. O'Brien, Matt Campbell, or a big name assistant like Lebby, Marcus, etc.

IMO Stoops would be the best option if no Mario or Lane. I think he could build a solid foundation here: he has shown he has some recruiting chops, has a solid defense, and has shown openness to offensive innovation in his most recent OC hire. Give him money and resources and I think winning the ACC Coastal becomes the norm along with 9-10 win seasons every year.
 
Well they said F you to Lane even on the cheap. They could care less about winning because it's Mario with absolutely no search.
