So we finally offer Treon Harris as a QB.

Didn't read all of the astute posters in thread post, but what a dumb *** late decision.

This is the move that should have been done from the get go. Get him on your team, and give him a shot to play QB. Also keep in his ear at the same time. That while you are waiting. This team could really use you at "X" position.

Who knows this kid, not being the prototypical QB, may surprise everyone. This is college, not the NFL. Get the best players that you can on your squad, and figure the rest out later.

The only thing that complicated this was that it's Ice Harris' kid and therefore, if they felt they were getting a crap deal, it may have started a broader issue. For that, I understood shooting Treon straight and sticking to that plan. Except, now we've decided to go against that plan 1 month before signing day. I guess we can pray for the miracle that this somehow ends up as a positive thing. Maybe Treon really, really, really wants to stay home.

I don't think it would become an issue. If you offer the kid what he wants, and you do your best to honor that. Treon is going to sit 2 years at FSU, at the moment. He has a chance here. To get his shot most likely after Williams, and if he felt. He was given a real chance, and didn't win the job. He can get on with playing another position.

I am just saying, get the best players on your squad. If they are someone that wants to be a QB, but isn't the prototypical one. All you can do is allow him to compete, and then try to sway him.

And that would do NOTHING to stop the b8tching and grumblings from the So Fla community who feel that Treon should be starting, just like they b*tched when Marve struggled and ensured he was run out of town and Jacory was annointed. Not to mention the locker room divisions between the 305 boys, and everyone else. I said it before, and I stick by it, Treon was more of a potential problem than he's worth. IMO the BEST way this whole "offer" works, is if it was done out of "respect" to quiet things down, so we can go out and offer a 3rd QB in this class, and with the hope that he was never really going to take it.

I think treon would work best in an auburn style offense but what do I know. I would have given him a fair shot at qb out of respect for his pops but I agree it is a potential recipe for disaster.

I've been staring at this topic for 20 minutes in disbelief. The one thing I could give credit for was not being a complete moron. One of the reasons FSU is kicking our *** in recruiting is because they are offering leaders, not just players. They are offering the kids that get other kids. This is a perfect example. He should have been offered in the summer. Offering him now is borderline insulting. We have the top High School Football team in the nation with a highly rated QB who has three brothers that went to UM and we don't offer until 3 weeks before signing day? Seriously?

We really are playing checkers.....Jimbo is running circles around this staff. We have there moron coaches tweeting out that the "305 is Nole Nation".....and you can't even freaking argue.

You can't run from player X, because what the So Fla community feelings are. On who should be playing what position. Plenty of other kids from So Fla are sitting while guys from elsewhere are playing.

Were not talking about "Player X" were talking about ONE particular player, part of ONE particular family, where there has already been controversy and public disagreement in public. That player also happens to WANT to play, the one position on any team that tends to generate the MOST controversy. Top that off with the fact that our coaches obviously never felt that the kid was their type of QB and not someone they thought fit here, and this is much more than just "running from player X".

He will never play qb and the fact that Miami even offered him as a qb is stupid, he is nothing more than a back up at best, its not his position in college. Miami should not have even buckled to that madness, unless Treon said "if I don't pan out I will switch to another position". I don't give a dam who FSU gets, if these recruits don't bleed orange and green then let them go to wherever. I am so tired of you so called fans blasting the staff cause a kid chooses FSU, Florida, or some college out of town. No staff gets everyone they want, if that's where the kids want to go then the best to them, give me the ones who want to go here, and not here, and not told lies of sure you will play qb. Treon is not and never will play qb at FSU, or here, stop with the madness we have a great class.

So you say that we really didn't want him, but offered knowing that he wouldn't take it just to be able to say that we did offer? And you're calling out the opinions of other people? So, if taking a chance on him being a cancer if he didn't win the job didn't make sense earlier in the year, you're now saying it makes sense to offer him now because the assumption is he won't take it? Well, what if he does? Do you not think that that would be a million times worse than the early offer? I can see it now. Al while scratching his head and rubbing his fingers across his nose, "Ummm Treon, we didn't really mean that you had an offer at QB. Just keep this between us and go ahead to FSU." LULZ

So it is better to not have offered him at all?

That's the only legitimate question. And, given it's Treon Harris (which means more than an ordinary QB with the potential to be a star at another position), you make an early decision to play it a certain way and you stick by it. Otherwise, it may expand existing negative chatter. That's not a risk I roll with at this point. If you think it's just people on this board who react to the offer like "oh really, now?" then I'm not sure what to say. This is a reality we have to deal with and the coaches should be aware of (I think they are, which makes the rumored move more puzzling).

So, what if the early decision was to tell the kid that we could not offer him an opportunity at QB at the time, but will make that offer if the opportunity develops? What if the staff is sticking to its early decision on how to play it and is playing it exactly as it was communicated to Treon? Everyone here assumes that an offer at this point will be received negatively, but it might just be viewed as the staff having acted honestly and proceeded when the opportunity arose and exactly as everyone involved understood might be a possibility.

I'm not defending the staff because I don't know if it dropped the ball or did not, but I don't see criticizing based upon assumptions as making any sense either.

There aren't any assumptions in what I've written to you. There is existing chatter that the staff has a certain, eh, approach. Even if it's not how it is meant, unless they somehow communicated with Treon and he said there was a good chance to flip, this type of move (when he likely declines to flip) is not worth the cost. Like I said in my original post, it's a variant of the Skai Moore situation, except this player is freakin' Treon Harris and we all know what comes with that.

It's just frustrating because none of this had to happen if they simply took a more flexible stance early in the process.

You can't say there are no assumptions and then follow it with an "unless they somehow . . ." That already suggests that you are assuming that they did not somehow . . . That also assumes that your possible exception is the only one that would be acceptable.

I don't know about that chatter. That might impact my view, but I think I'd still reserve criticism until I heard some complaining from someone that counts (no offense intended to anyone here, I just mean someone of direct impact in recruiting).

What cost are we all imagining will arise from news that an offer was/may have been extended to Treon, if he declines to flip? We don't know what the staff has done to try to avoid costs. Is there an upside if he does flip? Does it outweigh the potential costs. Impossible to say without knowing more. That's why I can't get worked up about this without there being some evidence of a real--not perceived--cost or issue.

None of what had to happen? That's not rhetorical. I'm not following this year as closely as I have in other years, so I admit that I may well have missed something.

We as fans have to stop thinking like this all of the time. I'm pretty sure Golden & co are going to accept an offer from a talented kid over a kid that isn't as talented but bleeds green and orange.

He's taking an official to UF...

Interesting. Weird timing. Seems odd everyone is reaching out now and he's taking a visit to UF.

Probably to recruit for FSU. If I'm UF I keep him far away from other recruits that weekend.

Who though? They supposedly have a hard number of 31 and are at 29 already with Ro Johnson and Lane as virtual locks. Doesn't include leans like JC and others. I know they will probably drop a few kids but they are basically full.....

And, by the way, assuming this is true, I'd be against the move for an entirely different reason. I was all for not offering him from the get-go because I only saw downside if he took a shot at QB and lost the competition or his family at some point felt as if he was being treated unfairly, etc. I had visions of the Crudup mess and the Kirkland situation showed me that his dad can be pretty darn vocal when his displeased with something. I don't know that my position on that would change either, unless I heard something different.

In other words, I'm inclined not to like the move--if it even really happened--but I won't criticize without knowing more.

As an aside, wouldn't it be amusing if everyone that got worked up in here did so for nothing because the rumor isn't even true?
