So UM people are throwing the players under the bus Again

Have we even been beaten long for a TD yet? WTF. Let's take a risk every now. We have some of the best athletes in the country in our secondary. Let's roll the dice every now and then. This isn't the NFL. Most of the QB's that we play are average.

One sure way to get an average QB to play above average is to sit back and give him time.

I guess Ronde Barber never got the memo that slow corners can't play at a high level.

Is it coaching? Perhaps Scheme? Probably Should he have been a 5 star? No

Antrel Rolle was a similar prospect coming out of high school as Tracy Howard, but Antrel Rolle would dominate. If Antrel played today, he would dominate in our scheme, with our coaches, and with our defense. He wouldn't be sharing plays with the backups. Open field tackles, no problem for Antrel. I like Tracy Howard but I have seen him miss tackles that a player should make regardless of scheme or coaching. Tackling is something he has been doing since he was a kid. He also has been beaten one of one with a receiver. Again, this is something he has been doing since he was a kid and the blame falls on him. I expect more from him because I know he can play better.

A coach wouldn't want to take Antrel off the field because the defense would be weaker. If Tracy Howard is on the field or not, I don't notice a difference. Do you?

Lastly, if we had a pass rush. Yes, I know it's not possible, but if we did, I feel the Tracy that we thought we were getting or at least close to that player would become realized.

totally disagree

Antrell rolle would be a nobody in this system.. period.

Nothing you say can show otherwise. Youre just grasping here.

Tracy needs to improve. He doesn't tackle that well. He doesn't play the deep ball well. He'll get better though. The kid has shown it he can play at times.

Bull****. Not grasping. He would be drafted early as **** in the draft and sure as **** wouldn't be sharing time with Artie or Corn. Denzel stands out and would in any scheme or defense. Players make plays.

Is it scheme or is TH getting outplayed?

What I see:
Mr. 5 star corner can't play off the receiver. Mr. 5 star corner can't tackle. Mr. 5 star corner getting beat on pass plays. Mr. 5 star corner not looking fast. I would figure a 5 star corner could do some of these things. I am not hating, but as much as I would like to put all the blame on the coaches, I can't. It's not like he's a JAG, he just isn't on my draft or All-ACC team. Expectations were set high for him.

LMAO at the idiot saying Antrel would dominate in this scheme. lolololol

no one would dominate in this scheme. it sucks donkey ****s

Exactly. Nothing to do with coaches that he hasn't lived up to expectations. It's not on the coaches when he whiffs on open-field tackles over and over again, game after game, while the other 4 cornerbacks that get significant playing time DON'T miss tackles anywhere near as frequently.

Howard reminds me a lot of Brandon Harris. He is not a burner but he is a good player and he understands the game. They're rotating a lot of guys at corner right now. Tracey has been fine. The issue isn't at corner.

Terence Newman was washed up in Dallas. He's 36 years now, nowhere near as fast as he was when drafted, and has been a top flight corner for the Bengals now in his third season there. I don't think he turned 34 and magically got bigger, faster or smarter in the few months between playing in Dallas and signing in Cincinnati. Could it be that he got coaches that found a way to make use of his skill set while also correcting problems in his technique? I'm pretty sure thats what coaches get paid to do. When you have a talented guy that is willing to train hard, study hard and devote his time to the craft, then it's on the coaches to find a way to take advantage of his skill set(no matter what it is) and continue to help him develop all around. They fought tooth and nail for Tracy Howard, but now he's too slow for them? He ain't anywhere near as fast as someone like Newman was, but I would bet money that Tracy is faster now than he was when he arrived on campus.

In college football, you can put your hands all over a WR all the way down the field as long as the ball isn't in the air and you aren't holding him. Someone who isn't the fastest, but is good at jamming/getting his hands on WR's, and that has good hips and feet, should be playing up at the line to help negate the difference in speed(sounds like Tracy Howard to me). You don't slow a guy down by getting a 10 yard head start on him. He is still going to run by you if the QB is given enough time to throw, or just catch 10 yard comebacks all day. If you are worried about Tracy missing on the jam and getting beat, perhaps the DB coach should do what he is getting paid to do and make sure he doesn't **** up his technique and miss the jam. If you don't think he's strong enough, tell him that he needs to get in the weight room, give him a program, put it on him to do the work and do your ******* job and coach him up.

This entire defensive is predicated on covering up players weaknesses instead of coaching up and playing to their strengths. Worried that he'll get beat deep, we'll just put him back there 20 yards and keep everything in front of him. Never mind the fact that he excelled in bump and run in high school and has good hips and feet that with proper technique and strength, could negate speed at the line. We'll just give you 8-10 yards anytime you want it, to try to negate the 60 yarder. Safeties can't play the ball in the air? We'll just have them drop 20 yards behind the deepest WR and make the tackle after they catch it. Live to play another down, until the down they finally score on, and then we'll get 'em next series guys. From front to back, the entire defense is set up this way.

**** Al Golden.

I feel like most of those were zone coverages or just blown assignments, though I could be wrong. I know it's happened to Burns a few times, but I don't remember many plays were CB's lined up in bump and run and got beat deep for big plays. Even when Burns has been beat, he's been in position but hasn't played the ball. Which seems to be a problem with all the guys in the secondary and that screams systematic issues more than a guy is bad at playing the ball. Especially when it seems like they were better at it in high school. Either way, **** Al Golden.

How can anybody who has seen this coach and his buddy's scheme blame any of these kids. Are there really that many idiots trolling this site?

Howard isn't terrible, but those criticizing him are correct in the fact that he has not lived up to his hype. He is playing ok, but has been outplayed by Gunter, Elder, Burns, and at times, even Crawford. His major liability is tackling, or the lack thereof. I haven't seen a player miss on so many open field tackles in a long time.

If they expect Tracy to tackle like the video below, no wonder He can't tackle. It's like they expect everybody to tackle like a 6'4 250 LB LB:

Elder, Burns, Gunter, and even Crawford are all tackling better than Tracy. Elder is smaller than Howard and is tackling just fine.
