So tonight is just about if we jump Utah?

Isn’t this tiring? At this point, if we get in, we’d better kill it at least once or twice. Otherwise, it’s gonna be “we knew Miami didn’t belong.” We need to not lose to lower rank/unranked opponents in the future so it doesn’t come to this much drama just to get in. God I’m so exhausted…

The mental gymnastics happening in here is funny. They sure as **** will dodge every scenario that has us compared to the likes of Bama and ND. Those teams are college football sweethearts.

It's the last week of the season. Let's beat Pitt, comfortably would be excellent, and let's see what happens with other teams. What happens if GT beats UGA? It almost happened last season.

Crazier things have happened, maybe a few teams **** the bed and we move up.

If that did happen UGA would still be in.

Even if we jump to 12, we still need one of:

OU
Bama (I think we jump them if they lose the SECCG)
Oregon
Ole Miss (their resume is pretty weak. A loss to MSU would drop them at least 6 spots back)
A&M to lose twice (against Texas and again in the SECCG)

to lose.

I think the committee puts us in front of ND if we can both get in. 8 and 9 or 9 and 10.
I doubt they put us in if it bumps ND out.

I started a thread a few days ago called prepare to be disappointed and this is another thread with a bunch of back and forth optimistic/ pessimistic posts and what if scenarios.

The bottom line is this. There are 12 playoff spots. The following teams are ahead of us as of right now (in no particular order)
1- Ohio state - they could lose to Michigan and it would not matter we are not passing them.
2- Indiana- they could lose this weekend and it does not matter we are not passing them.
3-aTm - they can lose to Texas and it does not matter we are not passing them.
4- Texas Tech- they could lose a game and we still will not pass them.
5- UGA- they could lose to Gtech and still we would not pass them.
6- Oklahoma. If they win this weekend we can not pass them.
7-Notre Dame- they beat Stanford they are in
8- ole ****- win the egg bowl and they are in
9- bama- beat Auburn and they are in.
10-Oregon after beating USCw I think they are ahead of us even if they lose to Washington but if they beat Washington they obviously are in.
11- group of 5 team- right now it’s Tulane but it doesn’t matter this is not a spot we can take.

And most importantly
12- ACC champ. Right now it’s wide open but we would need a few things to fall our way. Very likely the winner of SMU vs UVA.

So while we wast a bunch of time talking about Vandy, BYU, Utah and Miami we lose sight of the fact that the order of the playoff teams is undecided but the field is likely already set.

Only thing is that VT is a common opponent.

They beat them by 24 in September. They probably won't actually look at the storyline (VT was up 20-10 at the half) but I can absolutely see them do so box score comparison and say "well Vandy beat them by 1 more TD so that warrants them being 1 spot ahead."
Ehh. If anything them looking at a condensed thing probably benefits us more.

The issue is bottom half there all have an IF. So nothing is set. Also, we need to jump Utah to avoid them slotting into say the 10th spot if something opens up.

One of my favourite quotes is that’s why they play the games.

The teams in front of us all have very winnable games in front of them. To obsess about being ahead of Utah , fine we do deserve it but I don’t see it mattering. Not saying you are obsessing btw just people in general.

No. If we move to 12 and nd stays at 9 then according to the committee that’s when head to head will come in play if they are within 3 spots of each other. We will find out if they are full of shít or not

That’s true. But it’s CFB. Wild **** happens all the time.

In other words, considering BYU would be ahead of us, 2 of Oklahoma Ole Miss, Bama and Oregon need to lose and we're in (ND will not lose to Stanford).

The tough part is if we don't jump Utah I think that severely hurts our chances of beating Pitt, and that will just further justify the current disrespect.
