So this is what happens when

Manny has all but admitted he didn’t want to bench the older guys. A lot of coaches around cfb are scared to do it because of the portal. You don’t want a bunch of guys transferring out.

It took injures and some younger guys being angry to the point they’d leave , forcing the coaches hand. There’s still guy like Chase and Roberts who should get playing time or more playing time.

Why did it have to get to that point to play the better guys. It’s more proof manny is unqualified for this job.

Williams, Knighton, Taylor were all getting significant reps before injuries. Only guy that didn't was TVD and for obvious reasons. I don't think any coach in America would have started him over King.
 
I think in terms that we’ve shifted our offensive philosophy to a more traditional spread/air raid type system, Rooster is the best back for it. Not only is he a legit receiving threat, he’s probably our best pass protector. Would I prefer having a 1-2 punch with Chaney as well? Definitely but Knighton has been really good since coming back from suspension

Williams played sparingly , we had 26 who is awful starting, eating most snaps. Which is criminal.

Taylor you’re 100 % full of ****.

Knighton was suspended but if he wasn’t Chaney and Cam would’ve played most snaps. If Cam doesn’t go down he’s still eating majority of the snaps.

The Fr receivers are also playing a lot more.

Ivey finally got benched after looking god awful for years.

It took Gaynor getting hurt to put Clark in, he’s not young but me and others said Gaynor was bad and Clark is better.

Mallory is terrible and almost costs us games with atrocious blocking and putting the ball on the ground , yet he still gets as much or more burn than Arroyo. It took Mallory being horrible to get him real pt.

I know you’re a troll by your Manny defending posts and idiotic takes , I’ve already wasted too much time.

The calculation there was that with King, you have a known quantity in D’Eriq and you can theoretically keep that game close, then get rolling into your schedule. With TVD you assuredly lose (I’m unaware of any first time starting freshman QB going into the season that has beaten a Saban team), and potentially shatter his confidence and that of the team in him. More importantly, you lose big and hurt public perception. And then you’re taking this same quarterback into a game with a good App State team and with factions within the team calling for D King.

In reality of course we fought hard, but did get punished by Saban. In retrospect, the best move was to start with TVD and get him the experience that he needed right away. We would have lost to Alabama, but Van Dyke has shown that with each start he has gotten better and the offense evolved. We would have been 6-2 or perhaps even an outside shot at 7-1, albeit with low margin of victory games.

I can’t blame Manny for going with King, as almost any coach would have. It might become a great what-if....until that injury in last year’s bowl game I don’t think D’Eriq intended to stay. That knee injury prevented TVD or Garcia from starting in week 1, and may have changed a lot of plans.

Agree. The fact that it took so long for Manny to sub out 26 when he clearly has no clue what he is doing is enough confirmation that Manny never intended to do squat until he had to. I don’t get being worried about these guys hitting the road. Is it that he is ashamed that he was recruiting Hall, Ivey and company for the future of this team? LT came in with ready for CFB size. I understand that he needs to learn assignments and especially how to read and fight pressures, but please. If our OLine were any good, he would have picked this up in training camp, especially being on the 2 and 3 team. Fact of the matter is Manny is incompetent. People talk about Dabo turning it around in year three. If this happens to Manny, it is more about dumb luck with recruits and nothing to do with actual coaching. Look af Dabo’s team now. Can’t teach Xs and Os to a team that lacks ability. That is what we were rolling with and avoided disaster with the threats of the younger kids transferring due to the injuries that took place. Definitely no Manny’s initiatives though.
