So ... All the BBB guys/gals just gonna act like

... Larry Fedora doesn't have that UNC program at 7-1, and in position to play for their first ACC championship?

They finish the season with Duke and Miami at home, and at Virginia Tech and NC State.

I suspect they'll be favored to win every game ... And might finish the season at 11-1.

That happens ... Can we stop all the talk about the job Butch did at UNC? ... As if he was some miracle worker ...

The Coastal has never been great, and Butch NEVER lost FEWER than 4 games in the conference ...

I'll ask again ... Please remove the nostalgia from 15-20 years ago. What he did at Miami was legendary! But so was what Howard did ... And he couldn't replicate it at Louisville or Oklahoma ...

In his last two (2) HC stops ... Butch failed as an NFL HC, and never got UNC better than a tie for 3rd place in the Coastal.

And if y'all want to talk about all of the NFL players he got to UNC, you're making a bigger statement AGAINST Butch.

The same logic we apply to Mario for not dominating the Sun Belt with a better roster than the other teams applies to Butch at UNC. If he had a bunch of NFL talent, why didn't he win more??? And don't give me garbage about suspensions ... Anybody know how many starters TCU is without this year because of injuries? Yet, they're still winning! How did OSU win a national title with their 3rd string QB?? Good coaches adapt, and move forward ... It's what they do.

Fedora is about to win the Coastal ... In his 4th season at the school. And if you look at his Southern Miss career ... It's the same career arc. They may be hitting their stride, as a program.

Amazing ... He's doing that at UNC. Nobody wins at UNC, right???

STFU

NC was primed to make a championship run and then the scandal broke.

Based on their 8-5 record the previous year?

Would make more sense if they ended their 2009 year on a high note. But they ended losing their last 2 games, with one of them being to a sorry *** 5-7 Nc State team..........and thats with no suspended players too.

A few college football media outlets had UNC pegged as an ACC title and even a dark horse NC contender. Then the scandal broke, the suspensions occurred and everything fell apart. College football can be crazy at times. No one would have believed that Auburn would be in the 2014 NC game with a new head coach after going 3-9 the year before.

Being pegged the preseason favorite means nothing. UM has been pegged to win the Coastal multiple times without doing it. This year alone, Oregon was a top team, Auburn, Tenn, and countless others throughout the years.

Butch had the #1 DL, #1 LB and #1 DB core in the nation for 2010. AT NORTH CAROLINA!! Then the scandal broke, which started 15 years before he got there.

What does that even mean? Were they rated #2 , 3, 4, 5,6, or 7 in 2009 when 5-7 NCState beat them?

Did Butch hiring John Blake, aka "Black Santa" have anything to do with why he got fired?

i think half this board must be in middle school

Butch's 4th year at UNC (2010) he had a loaded roster and was the conf favorite and many thought they had a legit shot at the MNC. then the NCAA suspended something like 16 guys (dont remember the exact number but it was a lot).

they still played strong with all the starters out vs. LSU in the opening game of the season

Yay!! The moral victory award goes to 2010 UNC for keeping it close vs LSU!

When it comes to Butch, that must've been a good loss since so many point towards that as some accomplishment. They give him a pass on missing players but when it was the last bad HC in Al, they say there's no excuse.

Butch, in excuses we trust.

So here is the main point as I see it. We can't afford a 4th bad hire in a row. The program will be done at that point. So we need to know the guy coming in can get it done. The only way to know someone can get it done is that got it done in the past.

The vast majority of the names thrown about on this site have potential. Some of them could be excellent coaches, maybe the next JJ. But, potential is a dangerous thing. Golden had potential after turning around Temple.

Butch has done it before. He assembled the greatest college team EVER. Sure, Coker coached the national title team, but I could have coached that team on a part time basis and still won it all. Butch has done it. No one else on the list has. That is enough for me. We can't afford a potential hire here. We need a proven winner.

Al lost to Maryland without his players. Butch almost beat a national contender without his.

Almost beat a national contender sounds magical, except when it was followed up with a loss to an eventual 6-7 Ga Tech the next week.

The biggest problems with all your anti Butch posts is that you ignore where the teams were when Butch took them over.

-Butch was on his first HC gig when he came to Miami and Miami was at the very start of a sanctions that lasted throughout the bulk of his years here. People keep talking about how Butch failed in his years following the sanctions, but forget that those years after the sanctions were filled with lots of young players since he couldn't field a full scholarship squad during the first 3 years. Notice as the team started to get older with a full scholarship roster, they got better.

-At Cleveland, Butch took over an EXPANSION TEAM. How many coaches have had legit success with an expansion team? He had them in the playoffs in year 2. Then you have a change in ownership which who knows what effect that had on the situation. Here we are more than 10 years later and Butch is still the only coach to ever take them to a playoff game. How long did it take the Texans to make a playoff game? Expansion teams are the absolute worst. I'm not excusing the failure. Yes they did fall apart, but it's a ******* expansion team.

-At UNC, did you look at the team he took over? Compare that to the squad he left Fedora. Just when Butch was starting to get things rolling, the investigation started.

Butch has never been at a program more than 4 years other than Miami. Notice that 2 years removed from sanctions, he goes 11-1. Just long enough for the bulk of his team to get some age and experience under them. Rebuilding that UNC program, was going to take time. He was not studs on day 1 and yet that team was primed for a breakout before the investigation. He never truly got to prove what he could do there. Cleveland is what it is and most coaches flame out fast in the NFL.
