... Larry Fedora doesn't have that UNC program at 7-1, and in position to play for their first ACC championship?

They finish the season with Duke and Miami at home, and at Virginia Tech and NC State.

I suspect they'll be favored to win every game ... And might finish the season at 11-1.

That happens ... Can we stop all the talk about the job Butch did at UNC? ... As if he was some miracle worker ...

The Coastal has never been great, and Butch NEVER lost FEWER than 4 games in the conference ...

I'll ask again ... Please remove the nostalgia from 15-20 years ago. What he did at Miami was legendary! But so was what Howard did ... And he couldn't replicate it at Louisville or Oklahoma ...

In his last two (2) HC stops ... Butch failed as an NFL HC, and never got UNC better than a tie for 3rd place in the Coastal.

And if y'all want to talk about all of the NFL players he got to UNC, you're making a bigger statement AGAINST Butch.

The same logic we apply to Mario for not dominating the Sun Belt with a better roster than the other teams applies to Butch at UNC. If he had a bunch of NFL talent, why didn't he win more??? And don't give me garbage about suspensions ... Anybody know how many starters TCU is without this year because of injuries? Yet, they're still winning! How did OSU win a national title with their 3rd string QB?? Good coaches adapt, and move forward ... It's what they do.

Fedora is about to win the Coastal ... In his 4th season at the school. And if you look at his Southern Miss career ... It's the same career arc. They may be hitting their stride, as a program.

Amazing ... He's doing that at UNC. Nobody wins at UNC, right???

Nothing against Fedora, but they haven't beaten anyone of consequence and lost to Steve Spurrier before he decided to quit. Also we at mid season so slow your predictions. I saw the game last night and NC is average at best with a sorry QB. With Butch tomorrow we'd beat NC easily and may still. If Butch becomes our coach again we'd never lose an ACC game unless it's FSU.

I really don't think what Fedora is doing at UNC is in any way a referendum on Butch. I think it speaks volumes about Fedora's chops as a coach. I honestly don't care what Butch did at UNC vs what Fedora's is doing. I still think hiring Butch would be a great move for many reasons. While I'm not opposed to other worthy and viable candidates, I think bringing back Butch Davis would be a huge shot in the arm that this program desperately needs right now.

I like the fact you aren't biased. Would you be mad if we did end up with butch at the helm one more time?

Who do you want as our coach as for me my top 5 are Herman Hue Jackson Gary Pinkel Justin Fuente Dino Babers in that order.

Let's compare when Butch arrived at UNC to when Fedora arrived.

Butch arrived at UNC in 2007, after Carl Tobrush and John Bunting had decimated what Mack Brown had built up. Torbush and bunting had a combined record of 43-63, had only 2 seasons with 7 or more wins between them, and 4 seasons with 3 or fewer wins. They were at rock bottom when Butch stepped in.

Fedora arrives after Butch has built things back to a respectable level and stocked the cupboard with decent recruits. Takes him 3 years to get his sea legs.

Not to mention getting Gene Chizik as the D-Co seems to be a big payoff.

They haven't played anyone with a pulse. That's an embarrassing schedule. They lost to an awful South Carolina team as well.

Take a look at this UNC schedule from 2009 ...

you mean the year when half their roster was suspended?

This. Their opponents' records are a total of 30-29, with the only winning records coming from NC A&T (6-1), Pitt (6-2), and Illinois (4-3). And one coach resigned (USCe) and two more are on the chopping block (Wake, UVA).

So your argument is basically null and void.

Try again, that was not that year.

With the exception of that one great year he had at Southern Miss, Larry Fedora seems to be about an average coach. He's doing great now, but there is still a few more games left to play. Lets check back on him at the end of the season
