For some, that is most certainly the case.

I think it's more like this.....MOST people would be happy with Herman, cool with Miles, and skeptical but tolerant of Richt and Fuente.

I think any of the others, particularly Strong, would be met with tremendous outrage.

What FANS should be doing is making it known we demand an ELITE coach. That list is mostly recycled fired guys or young unproven dudes.

I would take Butch, Miles, and Herman off of this list.

Pretty accurate assessment. I think Pagano would fall somewhere in between people being happy to your skeptical but tolerant category too.

People would rejoice: Chip Kelly, Dantonio, Patterson

People would be happy: Herman, Butch, Gundy

People would be cool with: Miles, Mullen

People would be cool with be a bit skeptical: Richt, Fuente, Pagano

People would be disappointed/unhappy: Chud, Schiano, Rich Rod

People would lose their minds in anger: Strong

Mass suicide: Mario

I think that about covers it

Miles would be a very good hire
Richt would be average cause I think he's past his prime
Strong - Not a bad hire but not good either. Too conservative on offense and needs a big talent advantage to win. Would take over Chud or Mario or Schiano
Herman - Very Good hire
Fuente - Good hire
Rich Rod - Average hire. His record at AZ is not as impressive as I thought.
Chud - Terrible
Schiano - Terrible
Gundy - Great hire
Patterson - Great hire
Mullen - Very Good hire
Kliff Texas tech coach - Average hire. Needs a good DC to really win
Butch - Good hire. I wouldve put him under very good but he hasn't coached in 5 years and his last stint at UNC was average.

Hiring a coach is a crap shoot. I'm sure Florida fans were upset over Meyer. Or Texas fans over Mack Brown. **** even Miami fans didn't like J.J., Erickson, or Butch. No hire will please 100% of the fanbase. Unless the coach is a total **** head, like Cristobal, they should be given some time to try and fix this. I want to win, and badly. But the fanbase needs to calm the **** down, and wait and see. I'm still happy Al **** Golden isn't walking up and down the sidelines. And his butt buddy DC "coached" his final game as the home team in Sun Life.

I just don't understand the love affair and mass hysteria surrounding someone who:

Left us in the lurch 14 years ago

Didn't win more than 8 games with a stacked roster at UNC and had a losing conference record

Hasn't coached in five years

Some of our fans would include Butch on that list, also.

Heard mentality. Nervousness about being the last one standing when the music stops. Fear that we can't hire an elite coach.

WTF are you talkin about, shorty ?

the team he left WON THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP...some "LURCH" eh ?

besides, leaving Miami was not Butch's idea. he was jerked around on his new contract. do some research.

I like Butch given what he's done here and I still think he has something left in the tank. But there are a plethora of candidates in this cycle. This wasn't the case when we got Golden (although I believe Mullen was available, and if so, won't get into it). The thing is the Butch extremists really bring down the coaching conversation and make it seem like he's not without fault. That if hired, he'll destroy the cfb landscape. He can build a team, that is certainly evident.

However, as mentioned before he's not without his faults. His gameday coaching is certainly suspect and Bruce Arians (who's a god**** good coach) has called him out publicly on it while he was with the Browns as part of Davis' staff. For most of the names mentioned Strong, Butch, and Ferman as well as the pipe dreams of Miles, Gundy, Patterson, etc.. I'd be happy with either of these hires. They're not perfect, but ****, if they were perfect they wouldn't be available.

However, no thanks to Schiano and Mario. Doesn't take a genius to figure out the disaster that either of them bring.
