Did a little research and thought I’d put some numbers out there.

in 2022 we have scored 23 first quarter points. That’s averaging 4.6 points to open the game.
If you throw out BC we have scored 9 points in 4 games. That’s an average of 2.25 points in the opening quarter against D1 teams.

so it goes without saying we haven’t been good on opening drives.
we have scored on 2 opening drives this season. A FG against A&M and a TD against BC

As for the defense.

They have given up an opening drive score in 3 of the 5 games.

Some of that HAS to fall back on coaching and preparation.
