Slightly OT: UGA as barometer

Stevenson probably got here and they handed him a chicken sandwich and he lifted up the bun to see what kind of roids we using and didn’t find anything. Probably hey you guys miss something ?

Once again you keep talking huge / big, I’m not . It’s like looking at a thoroughbred. You see something that just looks powerful and athletic. Lsu in the early mid 2000’s had that look.

I can see a 6’4 280 pound dude that doesn’t look athletic but he’s a big guy. Then see a 6’2 230 pound guy shredded , vascular and you just know this is an athlete. That’s what I saw in our day. Now it seems like they’re more bloated looking or not much definition . Tyrique is one of the few that look like a rolle. Even though he’s not as shredded.

The early 80’s and 90’s was a bigger difference. But let’s not be naive , there was steroids around the program then.

Im going yo stop now before this gets super *** and we start breaking down shirtless pics from back in the day.

Steroids, PED's, juice, the gas, whatever you want to call it, they are around all over. That will never change

As noted track and field coach, Charlie Francis (who worked with Ben Johnson) stated -- ''its a level playing field....just not the one you think it is."

First and foremost, you need to recruit real talent. Guys who can play football and like to do so. Thats the foundation you need, and then develop that physical base

Bama and UGA are not barometers of what we need to be. Miami of old is our barometer. People will say oh well this is not the 90s or early 2000s. Physically its the same as when we were doing it. And guess what we didn't just build college dominant players like Saban been doing, we created all of famers.

I will say this, when Miami is serious like we are about football. No team can stack as many talented players on one roster. Not because someone is rated as a 5 star means he is the same as another 5 star. That means regardless of rankings, i would put Kelly against any DE in the country. Our top athletes are elite and we spent decades missing out or getting only a few of them. Imagine you get Shemar, Kelly, Bains and Moss in consecutive classes. We not counting the other talent. That means u built a championship level DE rotation in 2 cycles and they can hunt and win together as upperclassmen.

The difference between successful playoff teams and the rest who either get blown out like Michigan or cant make it like the rest of teams in CFB, is the defensive front 7. We can use 2 recruiting classes and build a defensive front 7 where every player goes pro from the 2 deep. That only happens in Miami. What Mario was doing at Oregon is gonna look like child's play when he is done with the next 2 recruiting classes. Which other location can have a recruiting class of WR like we have in SO FL for 2023? Nowhere else, that the answer.

Alot of the youngsters only know us being mediocre and they hear about old Miami teams. To watch it and see it is another thing and when ee get that back. UGA and them look like they are things to aim for, they are not. We have our own standards

Been lurking at @Alex Jones, @DMoney, @Liberty City El, @SouthParkCane and other great posters from the shadows over the years.

Went up to Athens for a bachelor party this past weekend and noticed their players physically are just at a different level. Since spectators can go down to the hedges you can really see and feel what a Davis, R. Smith and Washington look like physically. I know these guys are paid handsomely for their services but am I crazy for thinking we can recruit that type of talent with a new staff and the NIL in our back pocket? As @DMoney pointed out last year it’s SIZE and SPEED. It’s a dog**** year but I’m thinking about how we turn the corner. GOCANES!
The minute Smart got there they recruited at a different clip. Bigger faster players and maulers up front. Mario knows the formula and he has to win the battles vs UGA and Bama down in sfla. Which I think he will do if Skinner is a sign for things to come. If he does that and does it nationally as well in three years we will be formidable and we will be able to go up against those teams. They basically stole Butch's blueprint on his to build teams and made it their own. We will find out in 23 and 24 classes if he's doing that.

4 years of every South Florida recruit we want mixed in with state and national prospects to patch in certain areas will result in teams that would truly be unfair.

Florida players only going to Florida schools week result in amazing college football.

I know kids want to see the world and go to programs that win. But working with other florida players to take on the nation would be beautiful.

We absolutely have to stop trying to recreate the past, and create something new. The blueprint will be similar, but stop looking for Ed Reed, ST or whoever. Just find top level athletes, put them in a legit S&C program, and let them play fast!
It’s the TNM, brick by brick, tacky bs that’s gotta go. Just want to genuinely be the best and be about it. Not on social media, but in the weight room when no one is looking.
Our issues are multiple, we’re not keeping enough of the best home, we’re not coaching them up, and we have too many kids that want the swag but don’t know how to earn it.
Here’s to hoping Mario is that dude! Because I’m sick of these SEC posers.

Im not talking about finding the same players. It clearly says blue print. U can never get the same player again but if we want a guide line to follow we have our own. People say we can't recreate the late early 2000s, 80s or 90s. It seemed implausible with what the admin was doing before but now they have removed money as a barrier, why can we not. Did the region of south florida stop producing great players? If anything there are more of them. We cant get Sean Taylor, Ed Reed and Vilma back but we can create the environment that we had that made it competitive and made the players hungry and now they have all the tools to help them where they aint gonna be at a disadvantage against SEC schools. We have our own blue print. They talk about SEC speed we know Miami speed. What they are doing is something we have done

I hear you. The SEC speed used to be ours until we stopped keeping kids home. But our previous staffs tried too hard IMO to recreate the past, to appease the past greats. Fact is the last NC team is why we’re here. They pushed the admin to hire Coker, they love to get on social media with the answers, but none of it worked.

Hopefully Mario does it his way. He knows the blueprint. And whether we like it or not Saban is the blueprint now. He changed the game. He brought in 25 analysts, Bama is where coaches go to hone their craft or regroup after a failure. The 99 blueprint won’t work anymore because the game has changed in my opinion.

Social media, NIL, paying players, taking care of mama, giving families jobs, etc Bama has this stuff figured out and in a way has the system rigged. At least the $EC is helping keep it status quote. It leaves everyone else just playing catch up.

I agree with you and I don’t at the same time. Lol.

Charlie Francis was the man and spoke a lot of truths no one wanted to hear.

The eastern bloc philosophy was to identify talent young, build general physical preparedness and then they’d sort the athletes by sport around 10-12 based on athletic attributes (speed, limb proportion, hand eye coordination). This approach isn’t surprising given their focus on scientific socialism and the notion that man was perfectible through conditioning.

There was a book called the sports gene that had a great comparison between 2 high jumpers. Stefan Holm from Sweden was the first guy and he won gold in the 04 Olympics in true Rocky fashion: he was undersized and got to the podium by doing more practices than anyone else. His plant leg Achilles was transformed by all the stress into a super human spring. Fast forward to the world games in 07 and Holm got beat by a 6’6” community college basketball guy who started high jumps 8 months earlier, Donald Thomas. Thomas never got much better because he didn’t like to practice and didn’t give a **** about the sport, but he won at the global level out of the box. My take away from this example is that there are multiple ways to be successful.

Long winded way to get to the point, but you can win with generic freaks and you can win with Rocky type guys (Zach Thomas) IMO, but when you find guys with ideal athletic profiles and they have that dog mentality to put in the work, they are extremely hard to beat and those are the guys saban pulls regularly.

Mario’s greatest asset is that he has a QB day 1 who can win ten plus games and that feeds momentum into the 2023 class

Even if he didnt hes just that type of guy that can sell. Our roster could be Wake Forest level and dude will recruit monsters its just a part of his DNA. Guys like that can be elite coaches in college and thats just what he will be. He is going to kill he has that gift the Saban effect.

I know people that worked with Francis, and it was explained to me that in track, that you still need to be genetically blessed and be in the top 1-percent athletically, to even have a shot. That it wasn't just the 'supplements', you need to be elite to begin with. It was far from just the PED's

But yeah, culture is important. I've said it ad naseum, I think we'll have more than a few guys get purged from the program in the upcoming months as they come to the realization that this life aint' for them

Yup. Mario knows alot of players here are not Miami level. Good kids, good people but doesn't have what it takes to compete at the level he and we want. It is what it is. The offseason program is gonna be different. Kids responsibilities will be different for their time away from organized activities, just to start
