Slightly OT, NCAA meetings in Orlando

Ncaa is like the government they have good intentions but leave behind a bigger mess than the one they found.

You seriously think either has good intentions? Wow. FDR said, “there is no such thing as coincidence; if it happens, someone planned it.” I don’t like the man but he knew what he was talking about and was a massive example of what he meant.

There needs to be a change to the targeting penalty. The current system where you're immediately kicked out of the game unless the replay blatantly says otherwise is horrible. I understand the reasoning behind the rule but so man of these targeting ejections occur when an offensive player ducks his head right before a collision and the defensive player ends up hitting him in the head. Blatant head hunting and spearing should be punished but there's way too many kids missing games because of incidental contact.

As for any changes to the portal, I doubt they do much. Possibly they might put a cap on the number of transfers you can take in a given year. The truth is, Miami is benefiting from all the transfers this year but it's highly unlikely they'll be leaning on transfers so much in coming seasons. They're really just filling spots because the 2019 recruiting c;lass is so small. The whole idea that the NCAA would completely change something after only one season because "Miami benefited from it" is kind of stupid.

NCAA: Hold my beer

From espn:
Lyons said there is no movement to allow student-athletes out of their letters of intent if they sign in December and a head-coaching change is then made. Using this season as an example, he said four schools had coaching changes after the December signing date, and only four student-athletes requested out of their letters of intent. However, there was much discussion about what to do with the growing number of transfers trying to use waivers to become immediately eligible.
"There was some precedence set this last year so consequently everybody's pushing that envelope now so when you start talking about however many thousand-plus that are in the portal, then there's probably going to be a thousand-plus that are going to be seeking a waiver," Berry said.
Lyons said one proposal that was discussed would require all non-grad transfers to sit out their first year, but then allow them to get that year back at the end of their careers.
"We're not going to solve this overnight," Lyons said. "It's a bigger issue that we're going to have to get our arms around but we'll continue studying that and talking about it in our upcoming April meeting."
Tate's not getting a waiver, nor Fields.
