Slick Willie Indeed

Politics is the only profession where people spend millions of dollars and give up careers that pay them hundreds of thousands of dollars to take a job that pays you 150-175K a year.

Then come out on the other side millions of dollars richer supposedly only collecting this paltry 150-175K a year.

what happens is their “people” become rich while they’re in office and then they get a piece of those deals. Happens everywhere. Fiends and family get great contracts. Wink wink

Not true. They do it for the service .... crap I get paid to lie and can't pull that one off.

Still don't understand why there is any buyout if they are fired. If you work at a regular job and sign a contract normally when you get fired mid year you don't get the rest of your salary.

Normal jobs aren’t paying millions, or have agents and unions...

It really is insane, I'd have to think something will give like the NFL rookie cap. You legit have multiple coaches that have failed everywhere they've been, yet continue to get paid multiple millions for failing. Is there another career like that?

Sure. NFL head coaches contracts are almost always fully guaranteed. And eventually, almost all head coaches are eventually fired.

One out ownership has is they can deduct a fired coaches new salary, from coaching, from the money owed. This is why some HCs take a year off and double dip on TV. At least those with enough personality.

FSU can likely deduct any coaching income Taggart earns for quite awhile. If I’m him I would sit tight, maybe take a TV job if offered. Restart my career as a coordinator or a position coach. Maybe a HC at a FCS school.

Every employment contract I’ve signed had clauses to define a buyout, aka severance package, in the event I was laid off. Usually the buyout was the remainder of the contract year. Termination for cause was different. I could be fired for breaking a company policy and receive no buyout.

Poor job performance was not termination for cause. The contract would not be renewed at the end of the year. I guess it would be possible to f-up so bad they would want to fire me, but if I didn’t break a written policy they would be better off paying out the year than risking litigation.

I think most college HC’s contracts define ‘termination for cause’ similarly. Urban Meyer left OSU allegedly ‘for health reasons’ but I would not be surprised to learn his health was used by both sides to save face and avoid a public airing of dirty laundry. I can’t see Meyer leaving millions on the table the way Mark Richt did at Miami. There must have been a settlement. I’m happy to read legitimate proof I am wrong.

Did he really just make 27.5 million for 22 months of work?

If so he was the highest paid coach in all of college football. I got to give it to him.

He got paid 3 million per win.

Truth but he will never be an HC at this level again. I can’t wait to see which P5 program hires him again as an HC.

Enjoy it Willie!

if he makes the right investments with his money, Willie really won't need to ever work again .

It’s the free market system. Capitalism at its finest

Willie didn't do anything wrong. He was offered a job with a golden parachute and he took it. It's the job of FSU to ensure that Willie was qualified for the job. Willie would have been dumb for not taking it.
