I think he lost confidence. TRob said it directly- the only thing keeping Ivey from the NFL was his confidence. And a big reason he lost confidence is because he was a young man dealing with a toxic fanbase. It messed with his head.

I'm not even talking about the morality. They're adults, they get paid, whatever. I just want them to perform at their best when they're here. And stupid narratives only hurt the cause.

If it's fans fault for a player's performance.

The inverse then should be true. It's our fault for how good Scott, Ward, Bain, Cici, etc were. They should be thankful they didn't go to a school where the fan base caused them to play poorly.

Just to be certain, we are talking about the DJ Ivey on the Cincinnati Bengals, right? If so, that same DJ Ivey is indeed in his 4th season with Cincinnati and has accumulated the following statistics during his time there:

6 PBUs
26 total tackles; 18 solo
1 fumble recovery
1 forced fumble
38 games played

So yes, he has been on an NFL roster for 3+ seasons. But....let's not pretend he is some AllPro. He's primarily a special teamer and he's played a total of 13 snaps this season. Thur. Teen.
Last year he looged 115 defensive snaps and 273 special teams snaps; 255 total snaps the year prior and 134 snaps in his rookie year prior to his ACL injury. I wonder why he isn't getting more snaps on passing downs?

While your bigger point about not picking on these players via social media is valid, let's not overconflate our stories to try to prove a narrative that DJ Ivey would've been better here had he not been picked on. You know who else picked on him while he was at UM? Opposing teams OCs.

So for those in the know, did SJ stand out in practice? If so, who was he going against?
From what I have seen in the games, he has been outperformed by not just Cantwell, but several others that are backups. Just curious where he stood out in preseason? Wondering if he stood out more in the film room vs the practice field.

And the only other thing is that there are cases that people just play better in games than they do in practice.

As for Cantwell, they had him at LT all spring and McCoy at RT. If McCoy was wanting to play a money position, that would have been LT. And let’s be real. If Mauigoa got shifted to RG the moment he was drafted after playing 4 years at RT, what does that say for McCoys chances of playing RT?

This has entered the territory of 2024 where Lance would have Jaden Harris out there constantly when he was one of the worst Dbs to play here.

Its ******* exactly this until we see something different.

Also - Jaden Harris is STILL making the exact same mistakes. Exact same ones. Getting sucked up into the interior cost Kansas a 65 yd td vs Mizzou just like the long rushing td UF had in 2024 against Miami.

When I have called for the back up in the past, the back up ends up worse
The coaches see how bad si is
U think Mario doesn’t see it; its bc the back up is worse it’s like when we called for Jake Garcia and you know how that Went

We are in the position bc the the class that ahould
Be sophomores and juniors is all
Jags, we missed left and right
I remeber be called out for calling it out
The trentches you must stack yearly bc it’s hard for freshman to play

You can’t just take it personally every couple of years, we’re seeing that with dt recruiting

d$ had tangwell on today. He said that Cantwell play is mostly him over thinking. Once the game slows down some, with reps, we should see a big improvement. The big question will be RT or RG. I have to assume RG with McCoy doing ok at RT.

We really have a ton of young potential on this team. Sparks, Woodrow, Cantwell, Pickett, Congdon, Maxx, Hawks, Ervin in 2-3 years is one **** of a line up.

Good thing he got a lot of quality reps last game.

Rewatched the wake game and paid attention to SJ and Buchanan. Buchanan just doesn’t get any push in the run game but holds up ok in pas pro. SJ was atrocious in the first half. It was almost like he was trying not to block guys. It was actually pathetic watching. Had an insane amount of whiffs. He was actually better in the 2nd half for what that’s worth. He looked decent when pulling
