What I honestly don't understand is wasn't this kid supposed to be a center? (maybe/probably won't start there either but at least there is some precedence)

Why the insistence on guard? Undersized at both, but seems like even today small centers every now and then work out in cfb. And at NFL even though EVERYONE is big, the center on most lines is the smallest linemen.

He might be a center, but not at UM. No way.

Might be the most physically over-matched OL i've ever seen play here and at his size it's not going to get better.

I'm astonished at the disconnect between the player Mario and Mirabal obviously thought he was at the end of camp and the player he actually is. Alternatively if they knew he was bad but felt they had to start him for lack of better options it doesn't speak well of how the OL room was recruited.

Mensah wasn’t available until he was, I think that’s the point everyone is so frustrated about. We were decisive to get the right pieces when needed… except here.
 
I feel like SJ could be serviceable in jumbo sets as the FB or blocking TE.

But he doesn’t have the mass to be on a national championship winning line this year.

Just a question - what position dod Congdon practice at? Did Buchanan ever take any C snaps in spring, or was it Woodrow only?

SJ was awful at FB last year in the jumbo sets

If this kid can’t play guard, how is he gonna be able to play center with the added pressure of snapping and calling out defenses. He is overmatched at this level. I learned my lesson when it comes to trench players, you have to see the bullets flying in game before crowning anyone the best lineman in the ACC. Skill players it’s a little easier to tell, but grown man strength positions it hits different.

Idk if I want that much youth on the right side. Tackles have played well. Maybe try anyone else besides SJ? Its almost like he was a big get and the staff expected a star player and it aint happening but they desperately want it to work.
 
If the staff is dead set on keeping Mccoy and Samson at T then so be it.

I still REFUSE to believe Cantwell could not do a better job than SJ at Guard at this point.

SJ has been an absolute cone vs Wake and Stanford (nowhere near the athletes we'll face later in the year).

If you're going to be a cone, it's better to be a 6'8 340 cone.
