SI's Andy Staples on Mark Richt

There’s still room for improvement, but he isn’t getting the credit he deserves for manufacturing points and production out of a Malik Rosier led offense thats without Walton and an effective Richards.

A few weeks ago some of us were negged for saying losing Walton made him a better and more creative playcaller. Richt himself pretty much said said almost the same exact thing the other day. He's been forced out of him comfort zone and the results have been tremendous. The question is will he fully embrace the spread going forward, or will he revert back to what he was initially trying to build once he gets the pieces again?

I think he will do whatever it takes to win.

Jon Richt has been crucial in being a voice for modernization and creativity, and is another guy that gets a fair amount of flak here. He’s your future coordinator too once he can grow a beard and Dugans/Brown move on, so get used to him.

He would be looking better, if like was said above, the execution was better. There's been many examples where plays were there, but one guy missed a block, or Rosier dropped a snap or made the wrong read. The offense is starting to gel. The defense definitely is, and they're starting to feed off each other.

No doubt he’s getting better and more creative as a play caller but I would slow down on the “all time” kinds of commenrs

What do you base your Jon Richt comment on? How do you know he’s the voice for modernization and creativity?

Yeah....now that he has been forced out of his Plain Jane offense. We used motion for the first time EVER within the last two weeks. We can win big with this Mark Richt!

Absolutely Nothing.

I’ve heard him credit Jon twice in the last two weeks in speaking with the presss but don’t recall which ones. He gave Jon credit for some of the new things we saw vs VT, and in a separate instance complimented him for speaking truth to power where others couldn’t/wouldn’t.

Miami offense right now can run any given play at any given moment, very difficult to defend, we had the luxury on saturday of not having to keep throwing those 10-12 yard outa to JT that were gashing ND, that just shows how diverse we are on O

Look at all the points we've left on the table in the redzone. Until they can playcall around our lack of OL power, Richt should not be called Great.

Where I would give him a lot of credit is that he seems to try to tailor the offense to the personnel he's dealt, rather than doggedly sticking to one style. Go back to his days as OC....his offense with the immobile but accurate Weinke looked a lot different than it did with Ward - two extremely different QBs, but he got a lot out of both of them in different ways. ****, the Kaaya/Walton offense wasn't the same as this Rosier/Homer offense we are seeing. I still think he's scheming to try to limit Rosier's exposure to mistakes as much as possible, and that's why we don't see many mid-range passes in the middle of the field.

well in all fairness, in our most recent game we did just fine, and found a weapon in Dallas... and the QB draw has been a nice adjustment the last couple weeks

There are 3 types of Non-Execution:

(1) Failure to make a play when an opportunities exist (2) Failure to make a play when the Opposing Defense is beating you Pre-Snap or easily diagnosis the play and (3) Failure to make a play due to lack of talent or scheme.

IMO, #3 was never our issue. #2 was the issue for the majority of the season. Every team deals #1 , but the better team deal with it less.

We are in the #1 group now.

If assistants not named Richt aren't speaking truth to power, that's a big problem.
