Obviously everyone can look at his overall record and even just this season (4-6 vs teams not FAMU and Ark State) and his career record. You can also look at his record vs teams with a winning record or ranked opponents, whatever its all bad. We know. But **** people can throw that back in your face as it could be the coordinators. Ok well Golden is the special teams coordinator and how bad was our special teams? Terrible. Maybe the worst ive ever seen. We have more FGs and extra points blocked than anyone ive ever seen, we let returners bounce it outside and run to the opposite 40 every kick off. If it wasnt for Vogel coming over from Florida who knows how bad our backup punter would have been. I remember the Hester, Benjamin, and even Coley of last year that would change the game based on kick returns and punt returns. Golden was always making changes to special teams and saying we have to fix it, well nothing ever got better it just consistently got worse.
Another thing that directly reflects a head coach is penalties. During that pitt game they had something on the screen that showed we were ranked around 105 in the country in penalties and penalty yards per game. That is something that can be controlled by a coach regardless of talent. It wasnt ever addressed. In the last 2 games how many penalties were thrown for either Flowers holding, Jamal Carter pass interference, and unsportsmanlike conduct (because he had to spike a ball on an int like hes never got one before), and the same thing with Artie Burns. That is what will lose you these big games against good teams, penalties and special teams, and that falls on Golden.
If you are going to be that bad in both of those categories you better have the defensive plan to stop them on a short field or an offense to get back those 15 yards or you're ****ed. And in the end it just proved we are ****ed. Our defense isnt bad when the team has to drive the entire field but damnit when they start out on the 50 they score everytime. Golden needs to be fired or forced to make a change on defense, and bring in someone else to coach special teams because he isnt very good at it.
