Signature Wins

You want to win recruiting battles in the 24 class? It starts Saturday with. win. They wont flip/
come if we keep losing. Not after what FSU just did with JJ and Mccray watching. Eventually you run out of excuses. Fact of the Matter is,
Colorado, FSU will be that much tougher to recruit against for guys we all want if we lose next week.
Winning time=recruting
time

Why are you telling me this? I’m not going to win any recruiting battles. Send an email to Mario and let him know how you feel. Make it a win or else email so you’ll really get his attention.

I can try to forget about last year.

I just still have trouble understanding what happened with Cristobal in 2020 and it is one of the biggest reasons why I still have reservations about him. How does that Oregon team have back to back losses to a 1 win Oregon State team and 1 win Cal team? He had 5 NFL draft picks. Yes the Ducks won the Pac 12, but Oregon only made it to the championship game because UW had too many players out due to Covid, and they beat a vastly overrated USC team that fired it's HC not long after. People can say it's because he was breaking in a new QB, but he had a lot of recruiting cycles to address that position. Shough was a bum, but the Ducks should have had better options.

If we can beat TAMU this week, I'm never going to bring up 2022s corching fiasco ever again.

I get it. It’s just a long winded way for you to say that you don’t believe in Mario and you don’t think he’ll be successful. Just say it straight out. You’re allowed to have whatever opinion you want. Just man up.

Your restatement of what I said isn't accurate. I didn't say that I think Cristobal won't be successful or that I don't believe in him. I can't form an opinion yet because 5-7 is just one data point.

He built an outstanding Oregon team. 12 wins. But then the 4-3 season (with the back to back losses to 1 loss teams). But he followed it up with a strong 10-4 season. But then a 5-7 season at UM (which wasnt just bad, it was one of the worst coached seasons in school history).

I just don't know if he is closer to the 5-7 coach we saw last year, or if he is closer to the 12 win coach we saw at Oregon. TAMU will tell me a lot.

Elko might be the best head coach in the ACC.

What he's done in one year, at Duke of all places, is nothing short of incredible.

This is embarrassing to say but I'm glad we don't play them this year.

This has been said here ad nauseam countless times. The majority of us understand the importance of a win this Saturday. I have no doubt Mario does as well. He’s been there and done that at other stops especially at Oregon.

Both Duke and FSU had a signature win over two ranked top 10 teams. Colorado had a signature win .Now I dont care that Clemson or LSU/TCH might turn out to be a$$ this year.
Those are big time wins.

Cristobal is yet to have one as we know. This week is the most important week in the last two years for this program. Recruits want to see results.
The list of recruits at the game will be massive we cant hold back. Talk time is over.

JUST WIN.

If Miami wins on Saturday I have the green light from wife to fly to Chapel Hill for the UNC game. Solo trip

Not trying to be a Mario apologist, but a lot of good coaches have lost to Utah/Whittingham.
True, but you can't pick and choose the signature wins without acknowledging the blowout losses either. Hopefully Mario has us on the right track after last week's win, but time will tell

Two things:

  1. Colorado's win was impressive, but more so because of where they were last year and where they are now. That TCU team is 118 out of 133 teams in returning production. They lost almost everyone from their NC team last year. So before we say this is a huge win we gotta see how things play out. Also, there's potential 4-6 losses on their remaining schedule. The way I look at their win is like our win against Oklahoma in 2009. Beat a solid team and program, but weren't the same as their previous year.
  2. Mario won big games at Oregon, he just hasn't won one here yet. He's got an opportunity this week to put up a W. At the same time there's a lot of season, though I know the mopes are setting the stage to ***** incessantly if we lose.

Losing is not the bar. Not being embarassed and looking like an FCS program is the bar.

Y'all know how the media works, right?!?! Even if/when Miami beats A&M, it will get downplayed and it will be said A&M is still *** from last year. Won't be considered a signature win.

Totally agree

Being competent and not beating yourselves is the first step… which appears we are in the right track
