Okay. Tell our QB @ Deerfield about this advantage and see what he tells you. He's gonna look at you like you're crazy. He's not seeing any of those "advantages" in practice right now.

Live or unlive bullets, that doesn't change what's happening on the back-end of the defense. Guys are open.
And spread passing games run on timing, so just because the bullets aren't "live", doesn't mean the timing of the passing game changes. This isn't 1994 where QB's take 7-step drops and go through progressions.

A logical excuse for WR's getting open can be lack of pass rush resulting in long/drawn-out routes that become open.
That's a weakness of zone, but if you're running pattern-match zone that turns into 'man' coverage after route distribution then this seldom happens.
(and that's not what's happening here anyway)

And for the 37th time...
Yall act like this doesn't happen in real games! lol
 
If the defense had destroyed the offense and we saw something like King being 5/16 or 8/16, we'd hear nothing besides the fact that King isn't fully healed, that he is too short to see over the linemen, and that Garcia should start against Bama and that the Defense looked serviceable against an offense that wasn't at 100%.

Nah, I would say the defense is legit and contesting throws.
What we're seeing is ALL THREE OF OUR QB's are having solid performances versus our defense.
We haven't seen a single one of them have a bad day yet, going back to the beginning of spring.
 
Nevermind the fact that this is one of the first scrimmages with the new defensive coaching staff AND everyone enrolled/settled for the new season while also running a Diaz version of the defense that they haven't ran in 2 years (OR EVER). A scheme they are running against an offensive scheme (based on the premise that it is easy and simple to pick up and execute) that was already in place last year.

So all of their QB, RB and WR's stats were obtained versus our back-ups?
Is that what you're telling me?

Tutu Atwell had himself a day because our back-ups were in?
Orrrrrr because our coaches asked Bubba Bolden to play man coverage on him all game and made no effort to take their most explosive player out of the game?

There were huge running lanes for UL's RB because the back-ups were in?

Were the back-ups also in versus FIU when their RB had a day?
Were the back-ups in when we allowed the QB from South Dakota A&M to start 14/16 passing?

It's the same fvckin' defense we've had for years.
 
Yall keep thinking I'm stressing over "one scrimmage" when in fact I'm talking about multiple scrimmages with multiple QB's + years of regular season performances that I've seen.

It's easy to make excuses for one scrimmage. It becomes a lot harder to make excuses when talking about a much larger case study.

I see what you're saying and can't argue that they've all looked good. Based on what we've been told as fans, them is facts. I have no insider knowledge... so all I can say is that they are telling us the stats they want us (and opponents to see/hear). For all we know, those stats are blatantly false, padded, affected by the way the scrimmage was run/planned, or otherwise cherry-picked from certain sets of downs. It's possible that they have been purposely misleading whenever possible.

The only truth is how we play our opponents and we can all agree we've made opposing QBs look too good, so it's a fair criticism to see the continued pattern and be worried. Maybe they just want everyone to think the defense is the same and we as fans we will just need to have faith that it is more improved than they are letting on.

I imagine we will end up with a Defense that looks similar to the last 2 seasons of Richt with worse linebackers and better DBs. But the season will tell us the answer in due time.

I think it's a better version of what we've had the last two seasons. But you're right. It is. So the same flaws (while slightly less prominent hopefully) will still show. I'm just saying that this particular off-season especially, the defense isn't poised to succeed against the offense as well. On top of the fact that the veteran talent available is not as good as it has been in the past.

1. It changes what is happening on the front end, which effects the back end. Part of that defensive strategy is for the defensive front to get upfield to create havoc plays. When the defensive front is letting up because they don't want to run gassers for hitting the QB, and the QB knows he's not getting hit, there is an impact on the back end, too. Not on the strategy/philosophy, but on the timing. The entire point of the upfield push is to disrupt the timing in the spread passing game.

2. I agree with you (and have in the past) that the zone defense we have been running here the last few years is untenable. That spot drop zone that we play is going the way of the dodo bird and dinosaurs. It's nearly extinct for a reason. I'd like to see a move to more pattern-match zone concepts, too.

3. Nobody is acting like this doesn't happen in games (at least nobody who is being honest). But context is key. You literally started this all off by complaining about high QB accuracy against the D in every scrimmage. You are more likely to see offense have the advantage in scrimmages, and QBs in particular. Of course you are right that we have seen this happen in real games, where QBs abuse our spot zone coverage (and in particular the middle of the field) to rack up easy completions and yards against us. But that's all the more reason reacting this way to hearing about it happening in a scrimmage is just strange to me. If it's happening live to our defense during games against less talented offenses, of course it's going to happen against our own offense in scrimmage situations. Foundational/philosophical changes are needed before we should really expect to see any different, but I'm not coming to any conclusions on that based on this scrimmage (especially since I didn't see it with my own eyes).

Manny is going to live and die with his defense and T-Rob has said the defense is going to press man coverage so we gotta take him at his word.. Every defense has holes except the 85' Bears and the 2000 Ravens... This is unfortunately his...Hes putting his job on the line to prove that you are wrong and that he will be able to overcome this glaring weakness with chaos and disruption.

If you are right, than I expect the seat to get pretty hot for Manny at years end because he will be going into a contract season in 2022.

They only tell us what they want us to know. We all watched the spring game, there were some throws that would’ve been sacks and the QB’s made some flat out great throws. The stats yesterday read 12-16 but only 8yards per attempt. 75% completion percentage is terrible but 8 yards per attempt is elite.

I understand your frustration because too many times last year we literally gave offenses easy 5-7 yards instead of making them earn everything. As fans it’s easy to ignore red flags. I encourage everyone to think back to last years scrimmages. Knighton and Chaney were running wild on our defense. We were hype for them but it should’ve screamed run D could be a problem. King completed 65ish% of passes last year so it’s reasonable to allow up to 70% on a bad day anything over that I would say is a tough day in the office for the defense. Take note of Macho’s point, pass D could be a problem due to scheme or pass rush. We all want sunshine and rainbows but we need to keep it real.
