SIAP (Scrimmage Tonight?)

There’s unrest about scripted practices!? There’s really poysters in here trippin about “everything underneath” cause of scripted scrimmages/practices?? No, there shouldn’t be an overreaction to *gasp* uncovered underneath routes in a controlled scrimmage. No, there shouldn’t be an overreaction if we WERE able to cover underneath routes in a controlled scrimmage.

As a coach every day, each practice you’re looking to accomplish something to help your team reach that next level. And although full total practice domination is what each side is looking for the goal is to get better that day. Do I know what today’s scrimmage goal was for the defense or the offense?? **** no, but neither do 98.79% of the posters on here..but y’all keep calm though n be easy..actually go catch a live fball practice in person or two..

I don't even know where to start with this nonsense.

What part of the defensive "script" involves allowing QB's to throw 12-16 EVERY scrimmage?

So because our starting QB who’s been in college fball since the beginning of time throws 60% in each scripted scrimmage our defense is in peril?? Please begin to address the whole post cause this comment didn’t do it…

You think that back end passiveness has to do with not having the confidence in his corners to play press man more often?
No. I think that's always been his philosophy.
Don't get beat deep. Don't give up any big plays.
He's a "fire zone" guy.

Fair enough. Obviously he better change that mindset real quick. You'd hope experienced guys like Shoop & T Rob can affect that mindset a bit but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Again...yall MF'ers only read what YOU WANT to respond to.

I referenced ALL 3 of our QB's and their performances since the start of spring.
Also referenced opposing QB's.

And stop saying "scripted practices".
This isn't a football movie. The results of each play are not planned and scripted.

When we scrimmage, each side of the ball is trying to "win the day".
There's no "script" that says "allow the offense to succeed today".

He's just the CB coach. That's not up to him.
that's true but consider two things.

first, manny's track record suggest he is open to changing anything as long as it improves the team [your rebutal is that he has NOT changed this PROBLEM even though it has existed for years].

second, as i said in another thread, just like good new players improve culture, good new coaches do the same with the coaching staff. i dont think manny brought in Shoop and T Rob (an aggressive, mean, hard *** **** coach who also seems like a very good and nice guy) in order to tell them what to do. i don't think they are the types to be told what to do. i think they are the types to say i'm coming to Miami as long as ..... [within reason]. they will improve the staff and the staff culture and the D. one of those two guys or both will be our DC next year.

Anybody who vehemently disagrees with Macho or uses an isolated scrimmage as a reason why we play soft coverages, just hasn't been paying attention. We have a long history of making mediocre QBs look like the second coming of Joe Burrow (senior season).

When CMR was here we blamed it on the officiating for not calling holding and preventing our DL from sacking the QB. While there was truth to this argument, our CBs gave up everything underneath. Then Manny got promoted and we blamed it on how Baker was executing Manny's defense.

The truth is that we live and die with our front 7 and rely on disruption and pressure to create negative plays, turnovers and get our offense back on the field. If, however, we are unable to pressure the QB because of either subpar DL play or the opponent utilizes a quick passing game, then we get nickeled and dimed to death by QBs. This allows average QBs to gain confidence and punch above their weight.

Hopefully, we play more man-to-man and take away the underneath stuff. I can live with the occasional deep ball, but death by a 1,000 cuts drives me mad.

Was T-Rob a tight coverage guy at his past stops?
How was his defense versus the pass?

Furthermore, why haven't we seen the philosophical changes yet?

Exactly bro.
These dudes act like what I'm talking about is an isolated/rare incident. LOL

We literally allowed a mediocre QB to start a game 14-14 passing.
I've NEVER seen that before. I didn't even think that was possible.

For Manny's style of defense, scrimmages don't play to the defense's advantage. His defense is predicated on getting to the quarterback and hitting him, causing havoc in the backfield. You can't do that in scrimmages, AND they don't blow these plays dead very aggressively in scrimmages when the QB would have otherwise been hit and sacked. Freaking out about scrimmages is just plain dumb. The only thing that matters about scrimmages is that we come out with no injuries. That's it and that's all.

Help me understand what we are doing on defense to make our QB’s comfortable. Are you saying they’re not playing hard on D like on the DL?

Maybe our OL is much better than the DL???
They’re doing what varsity teams use their cool down practice for. Running a script and calling a defense to give the QB a look to see if he’ll make the right read. Basically making the defense play with one hand behind their back

Because you haven't actually seen anything yet. You saw clips of Spring scrimmages, and a watered down Spring game. That's it. We have no idea what the scheme is going to look like come 9/4. Maybe our defense is mediocre, maybe not. We'll have to see.

from what i have read, the answer is yes. he was man to man, press coverage CB coach.

why hasn't it changed? i don't know that it has or has not. but we will find out this season.

I watched him at Plantation quite a few times and he always stood out. He’s not super fast, he’s just incredibly smooth on his routes. No wasted motion, no choppy steps to signal a break in the pattern. Just fluidity and the ability to get open. He was ALWAYS open in high school. If he can put on a couple pounds of muscle he could get playing time this year.
Man! Yeah I remember hearing how smooth he looked before I even saw footage of him. Some ppl was even calling him "slow" but it's really he's just hella precise with his steps lol. Slow or not, dude finds a way to get open and CATCHES the ball. Prefect scenario would be that we don't have to rush these young fellas on the field as much so they can develop their bodies more buuuut yeah, the way our WR room is set up, we NEED them lol

It’s just crazy to me these scrimmage takes. It’s like people forget “preseason” and is going on for a football team. Watch an NFL preseason game, especially the first one. Any starter who is worth a d*** really ain’t playing much. King is non contact so he needed to play a few drives to get his feet under him. Harley’s spot is solidified and really doesn’t need the scrimmage reps let him stay healthy and get the rest. The rest of the WR really don’t have “game” reps in the offense. Almost everyone on defense is fighting for a spot/familiarity on the defense. I promise guys like TS, Rambo, Bubba, Cam, Harley probably only played a few series of that. Like the spring game, I wouldn’t take much away from it besides how did the young guys perform.
Really the only take always should be
1. Keontra gonna be the lead backer
2. Young WR are gonna ball
3. Probably not much can be taken away since we don’t have any film or stats really.
