SIAP:Mike Bobo on "the new" Mark Richt

LOL at all the beatdown schlubs on here with the "this isn't 2001 anymore" party line.

Bama fans could have said "this isn't the Bear era anymore" when they hired a long string of cumbums and didn't win anything of significance for 15 years between the Stallings NC and Saban's first NC. Nah. They knew what their program was capable of accomplishing under capable stewardship.

Demanding UM fans know the same thing. We've seen what UM can do under 4 different HCs in the 3 most recent decades. We're not talking about the 1940's and some program that won championships back then.

We didn't hire Richt to win 9 or 10 games and occasionally compete for the Coastal because "times have changed and UM fans shouldn't expect to compete for championships" whatever the fck that sissified trash means. Richt's decent level of success at UGA doesn't give him forever to accomplish decent results here.

Win 10 this year and the Coastal. Then, next year we need to be in the playoff discussion. Year 2 at marquee programs is when you can tell if you have an elite HC or not. If Richt flops in year 2 we'll know.

Can't believe people are lowering expectations and are ready to accept a lower standard.
You guys are doing exactly what Al Golden did on the recruiting trail, and that's accept anything "better than lately" instead of Miami caliber players and passing on the scrubs.
I bet you guys would love to be an oregon fan under chip kelly huh? win 11-12 games a year and get smashed by any team that actually plays physical...gtfo this is Miami...Everything about this program, and the #1 goal should be to recreate 2001, recreate the 1980's...show people why we are NFLU. Not win just enough to be recognized and finish in the top 10.

Chip Kelly went 46-7 with four BCS games and a national championship appearance. **** yes. You guys do realize we haven't seen double digit wins in thirteen years and we're not even taken seriously by our rivals right? National championships should always be the goal but walk before you run. The championship or bust mindset is great but we've had more than just five good seasons in our lifespan. You're not winning championships until you become relevant.

This whole rhetoric is nonsense. You don't have to win in tiny increments and after 4 years expect to compete for a conference championship.

Elite HCs at marquee programs start winning big in year 2 regardless of how much winning that marquee program was doing before they got hired. With our 5 NCs in the last 3 decades and our access to talent, UM is a marquee program. We'll see if Richt is big time or just a good HC who gets good results.

10 wins seems cool until you get 10 wins and realize it's not that cool.
Didn't Flubberneck Beamer win 10 games 10 straight years or something like that? Yet VT fired him and that program never reached elite heights with their 10 wins every year.

Nobody is saying 10 wins will be great years from now. However, the current state of the program is that we haven't reached ten wins in 13 years. Walk before you run.

With Butch,

1995: 8-5
1996: 9-3
1997: 5-6
1998: 9-3
1999: 9-4

Streak of 5 non-10 win seasons. The next year we were 11-1 and should have played for the title. We don't need to get a little better every year. We just need the right pieces put in play.

Thoroughbreds come out of their mommy's hole running. Enough with this horseshyt.

You chicks act like Richt is taking over a roster devoid of talent in an area with no access to recruits. He's taking over for the worst coach in the history of the program a team that was coachless last year and managed to win 8 games. We play a horribly weak schedule to boot. This is the definition of a fast turnaround situation.

It will be a fast turnaround but if you're expecting playoffs with this OL and depth at DB and WR then nothing can help you. We should be at 10-11 wins this year

Guys realize we hired a coach who was fired by his previous school, right?

We didn't poach him from UGA, they bounced him and we gave him a landing spot.

He's not Saban or Urban Meyer. If he were, he'd still be at UGA.

IMO, we need to hope we landed a guy on the level of a "11+ wins average Chip Kelly, be in the running every year", and also hope we get a few "Gene Chizik with Cam Newton magic seasons" to happen during Richt's tenure. If we finish ranked between 11 and 2 for the next 4 years (and top 5 in 3 of those years), winning 2 BCS level bowls in the process, I'll take it.

Yeah, I'd love to win 4 titles over the next 7 seasons. No complaints from me if that happens. I just don't think it's very likely ...

But, hey ... I bet Houston Texans' fans swore Gary Kubiak would never win a Super Bowl as HC ...

So, maybe CMR does go on a run. Who knows???

But after giving it more thought ... I'd probably give him 3 years before making any firm pronouncements, one way or the other.

You put CMR in the best recruiting ground in the country, and have the fact that Miami has started spending some money on the program. We are going to be doing very well the next few years. Golden didn't will **** and has NFL talent on this team.

So I see people take the "this is not 2001..." comment and fill in the blanks as they see fit.

No one is lowering expectations. Miami will always be ship or bust...but guys act as if we have been elite under the last three **** bags.

I fully expect Richt to compete for ships. If he fails to do that he will find himself as another former coach of UM

The menstrual cycle runs thick and bright in some of you...smfh

You point out even a bigger need for a guy like Richt. We've had like three good seasons in over 20 years. We need a guy who can put the program in position to stay in the top 10. There's not a huge difference at the top and teams that stay in the top 10 can get good bounces and be in the title picture. However we haven't had consistency since the early 90's. We absolutely need to compete for championships but we haven't even been relevant. It will feel great to even finish in the top ten and beat some rivals right now.

The Patriots hired a fired coach (Bill Bellecheck). The Broncos hired a fired coach (Gary Kubiak). How did they make out?
By the way, didn't Michigan hire a fired coach last year.

The vast majority of the guys with lowered standards are younger - they are from the end of the Coker, Shannon, Golden eras, and they never saw a consistent dominant Miami team. All these guys know are average Miami teams. Can't fault the youth - they don't know any better

I'm 21...I only vaguely remember the home game win streak being snapped. Won't find me lowering expectations...

If Richt ever won a championship in 2002, 2007 or 2012 then Georgia would have never fired him. We got a little lucky with how everything played out TBH. Richt lost a Heisman RB vs Tennessee and had to deal with a golden-like incompetent OC and he had a crummy QB that had WR dropping open passes. He still went 9-3 and got canned for Kirby smart. IDK who would have been the backup HC hire but I doubt it would have been a guy that almost won the NC 3 times and finished 9-3 with a pathetic offense.

Also RIcht is probably really ****ed off right now that Georgia canned him after 15 years and wants to light up the ACC to make a point. :)

That's really the only thing that matters!
