SIAP: Manny's Philosophy on Offense

EVERYONE says the spread is the way to go, but the spread offenses get owned by good defenses. Always have and always will. When Mariota was at oregon and played in the title game that offense got punished by auburns defense. And that was one of the better spread offenses in the last ten years. Our offense needs to be a hybrid of power run and getting the receivers in space. Enos offense has been poor but this team has dropped or flat out missed about 7 easy touchdowns that should never have been missed. those would have dramatically changed the outcome of the season. Plus our o line has slowly been improving which is making the offense look more competent.
You realize every top team is running some form of spread including Alabaga and Clemson?

Why do you football freshmen assume spread means Mumme Air Raid?

Guess what offense Auburn was running that night? Take a wild guess..

Also Mariota lost to Osu, guess what offense THEY ran that night?

The fact the freaking Oregon ducks made it to championship game TWICE while we **** around with our 100 ranked offenses and lose 4/5 games a year for decade straight is a testament to that offense! That year they loss to Auburn they won all their games with a backup qb, Masoli was ruled ineligible. They still LIT every team up avg 47 ppg. They did this with Darron Thomas at QB, Lamichael James at RB, and Jeff Maehl as lead receiver. Im sure we had more talent around that era.. Freaking Jeff Maehl was lighting teams up!

Teams like Oregon have accomplished more than we have running a offense that would get owned. We have a offense that wont get owned but lose to GT, UNC, VT, etc. Death struggle against directional michigan schools. Oregon with less talent is able to accomplish what they did because of their offense. They cannot lineup with teams in iform and compete. Now ALL the big dawg teams run spread to amazing results. Why would saban run a offense that gets owned by good defense? Why is LSU that has been running pro style this whole decade with 3-5 losses for last maybe 7 years able to jump to #1 this year when they changed only their offense?

I agree 100% and is why I’ve said many times all manny wants to do is control the clock and hope and pray his defense wins the game. It’s an old mentality of coaching and just doesn’t work consistently these days when everyone is putting a up a ton of points because your bound to have a game or two a year when your defense just comes out and doesn’t have there best day, that’s football. And thats exactly why you need to atleast consistently put up points to win today. The minute nick saban put that old style of coaching to bed should tell you everything. Going spread doesn’t mean you give up your power run game, depending on what spread you run. Spread doesn’t mean air raid, that’s just a version of the spread. I think the spread Uf and OSU run is perfect for us because it’s predicated on the zone power run but you also have your play makers spread out to do damage when you pass. And this helps the run game because now the defense can’t sit in the box. This is just another stubborn coach doing what stubborn coaches do and will be the downfall of Diaz.
Unfortunately all off season before and after the OC was hired he sold us on the offense being just like the defense. To be aggressive and constantly putting pressure on the opposing defense. Attacking and disrupting. Its part of the reason we are so upset on what Enos has done. He never sold us on what you just posted. He lied.

We're 5-4 in the weakest division in P5 with the best talent in the division.

Who are we leading?
What soft offensive concepts are we outdoing?

Again... we're 5-4

LoL, what's wrong with you man, do you think a solid to very good offense happens over night! How long you been watching Hurricane football, what coach diaz is doing is being a True headcoach in a short time, he's guiding, reeling in and saving dan enos by helping to mold this offense to what it should look like. Coach diaz has already figured out that a coach enos led offense doesnt have an identity and is all over the place, so coach dia, as the headcoach is refocusing the offense to get it to what he wants it to look like. 3rd and 12, a run play is called and deejay gets the 1st down, lol, that's some old butch davis, edgerrin WTF are we doing, oh ok 1st down, i see! We got a d-line that stops the run, this is going to help our o-line to keep growing, you can already start to see it! You looking at the 1st year record of a 1st year headcoach, you might want to pay attention to the actual progress and player developments happening across the board that's consistently happening. Dont let a real good UM team sneak up on you, coach diaz is definitely building on the foundation that coach richt laid, stay tuned.

I can tell you this much, people talking and making jokes about the coastal and the reason why everybody still in it saying "cause nobody wants to play clemson" i can tell you right now, clemson would prefer to play anybody else but us, upgrading the punting for this team alone is why our defense is still up their. While losing bolden does hurt, you could see his development and playmaking ability by being around the ball, and his awareness level is way up.plus he's one of those tacklers, when he gets their, you better have sound ball protection skills, or he'll rip it out of their.

I strongly disagree. We have one of the worst offenses in the country according to the stats. And what makes you think we’re going to get better? We’re losing Jeff and most like DeeJay next year. We need to try something different imo

Eh, not really. I'd say below average. There are literally 50 offenses worse than us (actual, not a thrown out number). If you factor out FCS schools, we rank even higher. We're 34th in the country for TD's scored and 49th in yards per play (against P5).

Its not concerning at all. He wants to look a certain way, have a certain identity and there's nothing wrong with that. We dont have the personnel for it right now but that's why we are building. Vanilla spread offenses get smoked when they run into real defenses and start looking like a basic offense again. They only really give you an advantage when you are more talented than who you are playing. Yea its fun to put up 60 on sorry teams but if you can run the ball effectively and take some shots because of it you'll have an offense thats sustainable and can beat anyone.
When u don’t have the personnel, and do it anyway, it’s concerning.

Perhaps your forgot to look at the score of that game. 22-19 Both of the offenses sucked. IF the wide open spread was the end all be all why isn't Oklahoma and DA Gawd Lincoln riley winning every year.
