SIAP: Joyner

Joyner, if I remember correctly, was recruited to be a jack-of-all-trades here because of his athleticism he'd be able to pass rush and play some coverage.
True...but I think they wanted him mainly for his pass rushing prowess. He'll have to develop in pass coverage if he's going to stick at LB. He's big enough to play well against the run and disrupt the opposing OL...good instincts there.

Finley is perfect at his role now. Completely changed our defense...for the better! We will be fine with Hall and Carter.

The thing about Finley at striker is he split snaps with McCloud and D. Smith. He needs to be on the field all the time, whether it's at LB or S. My only concern with Hall is lack of experience. Perhaps he or D. Smith can step in at safety on passing downs with Finley dropping down to striker.

I think we all trust Diaz to utilize him wisely, similar to carving out roles for Finley and Carter while Jaquan and Redwine were here.

Off topic, but now that 4 and 22 are moving on I'd like to see Finley and D. Smith go back to safety. Just my opinion.
No. Finley and smith are much better in the box.

They wanted him at LB.

We don't have a ton of options at safety if Finley and Smith remain at LB: Carter, Hall, Knowles, K. Smith, perhaps Frierson.
And if Quarterman, Pinckney, McCloud are around in 2019 they'll be taking most of the snaps at LB.
I'm not opposed to Finley remaining at LB but it would limit his playing time. It's not like he can't lose 5 lbs and be effective at SS.

I really like Joyner in the middle, like I wish McCloud would play MLB. They have similar body types and skill level.

We’d have a much different opinion of Zach if he played MLB and didn’t play a position predicated on pass coverage.
If shaq leaves McCloud in my opinion is gonna be the starter at MLB next season

You have to rely on the kids you recruit. Miami recruited Amari Carter in 2017 and he had offers from a lot of big time schools. He's a south florida athlete. He was highly decorated as a high school player. You need to hit on that eval.

Gurvan Hall in 2018. Nick Saban all over him. Highly decorated, etc.

If those 2 kids are legit, you should be fine. If not, then your evals failed and you're in trouble.

Carter is on Jr and D. Smith is a Jr., they have been playing behind sheldrick redwine and Jaquan Johnson, if they haven't taken the next step next year than what have they been doing, Im saying this because hall doesn't really need experience we just need the Juniors and Seniors to show them the way. Its all about leadership and holding your teammates accountable.
