SIAP Josh Pate On UM's Spring Game

Facts. Great comparison using Jimbo at FSU. He won a ring in year 5 so that should be a fair timetable for Mario to be measured. This 2023 class has a bunch of can't miss guys and the last minute 2022 class had 6-8 real good ones too who should all take a step forward this year. I'm glad you understand this year the record won't be amazing but the table is being set for an amazing run ahead. Go Canes 🙌

Portal plugs holes temporarily and high school recruiting is the backbone of your team. All the elites are built primarily following a specific formula and I'm glad that's what we're doing. This fanbase is just impatient and have convinced themselves going portal heavy will create a shortcut to the top.

seems that is what FSU has done and has been somewhat successful with this approach but I agree that there should be a long term approach with use of portal as a stop gap measure.

FSU is on year 4. Patience of withstanding those first two trash years gets lost in the shuffle. We gotta picture what we look like after two more recruiting classes like the one we just had.

Several of us have been saying Big Manny is not on the clock until Y4. He is under no/very little pressure to win Y1-Y2.

Y3 show some progress, Y4 we need to see something, not a natty, but something.

I believe (want to anyways) he follows the same arc as His Most Holy Coifed One (Dallas) and Butch DAW GAWD (Miami).

Minus of course the leaving part.

The future is brighter than it has been.

Go Canes.

Didn't accelerate for Kirby it took him awhile and he didn't have a total sh roster. We had to rebuild from scratch and all our difference makers are young men that just got here. When rosters are mismanaged that bad u go into your schedule playing vs men with exp. I think u guys don't get how bad the roster was. It can take that long to be a title contender. Can it be shorter? Yea but u have to be realistic. U can't run a dude out of town that's bringing in talent we haven't seen in a decade even more. Ain't no other candidate going to bring a roster like this. This isn't the 80's 90's or early 20000's, we got the right man just let it cook.

I do think he needs some progress on offense this season. Something that can quell and silence the offense talk about him. He doesn’t need to be top 20 or anything but get to Top 40.

Also fsu is fools gold, it's not sustainable what they are doing and it will smack them in the face. U can't build the trenches the way they have and stay as an elite. MC plan is to get there and stay there, fsu will fall apart eventually cause talent wins games.

Exactly!!! Building your teams through the portal every year is not sustainable. Look at how Michigan State fell off after that one great year. The portal is too unpredictable to be relied on. Mario is building us up the right way. By next season we will be rolling.

The portal is good for filling short term roster holes. Mario has taken 19 portal guys the last two seasons. It's just that most of them haven't panned out.

Same sh I been saying for years man. Now look the freshmen class sticks out (pause), the classes of the past were always bad evals and not true elite talent. This spring game had dudes moving and it was the youth, thats a great sign for building a national power. This is the first true class IMO and the results are astounding in that game. Not expecting big things this year but the following year we can start that turn around. Reminds me of Jimbos seond year at FSU when his class was loaded and u saw the youngsters quickly, people with eyes knew that team was going to be good in the future and they were. Exciting season win or lose cause Im going to get to watch true UM talent competing and they will finally have exciting players. Too many times over the years where our talent was boring and unwatchable at times.

Man.. I hope you're right. But the problem is next year's schedule. @ Clemson, @ Notre Dame, @ Florida, @ Wake Forest, and @ Louisville, with home games against FSU and Pitt (there are other games, but these stand out). Right now we have 7 road games vs 6 home games.

It wouldn't be so bad if we weren't breaking in a new QB. It'll also Mario's 3rd year, which is typically the "need to show results" year. Which puts even pressure on them to turn things around this year.

Kinda seems like we've kicked the can down the "next year" road for so long that it's finally catching up with us at the worst possible time.

I have always said and thought if we got a real HC we would slowly rise. It was never a quick fix imo. The reason people thought it was quick cause they (the fans) have over rated our talent for years. I on record have said during our coaching search even Saban the mighty Saban loses here year one. I have said it's a 4-5 years fix same as Smart. UGA fans complaining about him UF fans laughing at him while he continued to stack up front. Eventually it became plug and play and now look at them, stacked three deep at every spot. They are a machine now. We will be a machine in time I fully believe that, as long as the classes are elite and no drop off in recruiting. I don't think there will be a drop off either on the trail no matter on field product. Recruiters recruit

One of those games is going to be cancelled as you can not have 13 regular season games.

My guess is that UF will back out b/c with OU and TX coming into the league, the SEC will probably change to 9 in conference games leaving them only 3 out of conference games a year. I find it highly unlikely that UF would want 2 of their 3 non-SEC games to be Miami and FSU and since they can't cancel the FSU one, I imagine they will drop Miami. I am guessing that Miami scheduled the 13th game with this possibility in mind.

That leaves Clemson, ND and FSU as the only teams that we should have to truly worry about if we are getting back to where we expect to be. Yes, I realize that UL, Wake and Pitt have been decent lately but if we are saying we expect to be in the national conversation, those teams should not have us worried about a 'tough' schedule.

The following season I expect growing pains as well but u will see a ton of talent starting to come together. I think the 25 season is when we arrive on the scene as a threat imo. When our young guys are older and seasoned. I was never about patience with previous staffs cause what they were bringing in. Now that we have someone that is bringing in goons true goons, I am willing to wait and not blow it up and set things back more decades
