Well.....people with money still prefer free **** rather than paying, or even more money. It’s 2021, never say “ no way they’re stupid enough” . There’s a good chance you’ll be wrong lol.

I remember when Neal was coming out people said “ he’s all Miami , his peeps have money so the bag schools won’t be able to entice him”. Lmao, good times .

The only thing better than having money , is having more money.

The typical play is for high school boosters to get companies to provide games, housing, money, etc. This is only news because it involved the Touchdown Club and not a booster.
 
Garcia did play for Valdosta. He actually got banged up playing in that game. When he didn't play in the next game it was said that he was resting a strained hamstring or something like that. That was used as an excuse for a couple of weeks before the whole "ineligible" story surfaced.

Rich people do shady stuff all the time all in the name of getting more money. It blows my mind that people have the mindset of “oh, they already have money, they have no reason to do anything illegal”.
 
This happens all the time. Sometimes I can't even get mad. Some of these kids are homeless or have been abandoned by their parents. So coaches and boosters help them out with housing, and in exchange the kids help the schools out by playing for them. There should be an exception for these type of situations. (not saying that was the case here, but I can care less because it doesn't affect us)

Start the countdown to various CFB personalities saying “This is the most disgraceful thing ever in college football” and “Miami should cancel its season”....meanwhile Saban leases cars to his players and no one finds that odd.

I don't think people will call for us to cancel the season. That's a bit extreme. We should just rule all the QB's on the roster ineligible and be forced to solely play "Cotton-eyed Joe" at games.

Yes that would be the concern. NCAA rules on eligibility mimic rules on amateurism. Accepting money to play a sport generally renders a player ineligible under NCAA rules just as would violate that player's amateur status generally. And I'm not sure Garcia would even have to be in the money chain. NCAA rules (I've read em) absolutely speak to payment in kind arrangements and consider them no differently than a direct cash benefit.

That's my literal reading of the NCAA rules governing eligibility. I have no idea if this is a common arrangement generally overlooked by the NCAA or how/if it's enforced

My thing is the $3300 a month for rent, I would think you can find a decent place for lesser than that in GA. My guess is Propst's crooked *** pocketed more than the $700 He got from Winn Dixie.

Thanks. I was randomly down a YouTube rabbit hole on golf and there is a kid who does trick shot videos that also is good enough to play college golf. He preemptively reached out to the NCAA to clear that stream of income and they told him he would be ineligible. Certainly want Jake Garcia to play for us but it’s a pretty messed up system when a kid who built his own business on something tangentially related to college sports has to give up a stream of income to participate in college athletics while others can receive direct payments to go play at high schools with limited repercussions.
