SIAP: DeeJay Visited the Psychologist

Props to DeeJay for doing whatever it takes to make himself a better part of this team but Chirinos here acting like the kid had a mental illness or something and should be applauded for showing society that it's okay to get help. Weekend golfers (with money to burn) will see a sports psychologist if they can't make a 5 foot putt any longer.

Not alot of kids will admit they are having issues. Good on him.
Probably not the kind of personal issues you think most people go to psychologists for.

We had a very good sports psychologist in the '80's, Jody Yambor, I think her name was. She helped athletes deal with the mental aspects of the sport. I think she was the person whom Steve Walsh worked with to do visualization exercises to focus and prepare before each game. A lot of Steve"s success came from being a cerebral quarterback-he didn't have a lot of physical gifts.

When Steve's younger brother came in as a nationally-touted QB, he showed up with a bad hitch in his throwing motion. Nobody could help him work it out. I recall Dennis Erickson, who was head coach at the time, saying if we had a sports psychologist
maybe he or she could help Chris overcome it--but we no longer had one on staff. Jody had moved on.

Glad we have one now.

It kind of bothers me that the players are seeing a psychologist. They must feel like there's no way out from Mark Richts offensive coaching staff and feel like they aren't approachable or open to new ideas for the offense. Like they are trying to keep themselves sane from going off on the coaches. When our HC should be the one seeing the psychologist.
