SIAP: Bubba Bolden

Has the safety who “hammers” guys been taken out of the game a bit or do the kids coming in from HS not head hunt as much due to coaching? I don’t watch “real” HS football like a bunch on here so some insight would be appreciated. You can be a physical safety and be sitting on the bench and not playing the first half of the next game all the time now in CFB. It blows but it is what it is now...

I haven’t watched any HS ball in a minute but I don’t think the safeties are toning it down at all. I think they try to mimic ST until they get here and learn the rugby style tackling (and even then they get hit with the occasional bs targeting calls).

But after watching D. Smith, G. Hall, and AC high school film, those kids put it on the line.

I’m not sure about Bolden but I’m always weary of those transfer types. If he wins the job, more for Us!!

Gonna have to black that one out or go through a couple of laser treatments. No cover up for that one.

There are still plenty of hitters out there (watch Hall's highlights from HS) but it's definitely being coached out. Most high school coaches care about the safety of their players and don't want to deal with stupid penalties or ejections.

Do the people that have evaluated the tape etc. think that Christian Williams MIGHT be able to contribute as a cover corner Game 1? Who we lining up when the Gators go 4 wide?

Eh, you put a premium athlete with size and speed out there that can make plays. He had that starting spot locked down at usc before the situation . We need boldens coverage skills on the back end and even with limited time in the system I still Would want him playing over any safety on the roster not named gurvan Hall and to a lesser extent Amari carter who has shown somethings but not enough to keep a talent like bubba bolden off the field.

And we play these teams the first 4 weeks. He absolutely will see the field a lot within the first 4 weeks.

Even a great athlete will give up touchdowns if he isnt where he is supposed to be. Hopefully he's a quick study, because he wont play until coaches can trust him to know his assignment.

Christian is more physically readyIMO, but I think Couch will end up being the better player down the road. He has better cover skills than Christian from what I’ve evaluated.

That goes without saying for anyone, it’s a new season, and the starting safeties spots are relatively wide open after Jaquan and redwine left.

Good point. They are all learning to be full time starters so nobody really has a leg up on anyone at this point. I am sure Diaz and Baker haven't handed anyone back there a starters nod yet. Bolden, if he is as good as advertised, has just as good of a chance as anyone.
