Should we move James Williams to LB?

He's got the frame to fill out, I get he plays LB some but why not move him there permanently? I think his future in the NFL is at LB not safety. Just think about how you can use him as a blitzer and covering TEs. It's probably to late to make the switch now but going into 2023 it should be under consideration
safeties cover TEs in the NFL

I never said move him to backer I'm saying keep him at safety you see his quick feet and change of direction at practice, just still needs to get stronger tho and play safety like a Jamal Adam's type or Darwin James
Agreed. Yet, I like him AT SS in that Carroll 4-3 under.

Just like Kam Chancellor. That's legit his ONLY NFL comparison to Me.

Kam was big too and physical, but MENTALLY he was a DB just LIKE JW0

Have you ever played or coached Backers? I have. And I was **** good at it too. Please tell me what part of his game translates to backer?
He's never played or coached football. Pretty sure he doesn't even watch it.

He’s a strong safety, and the money LB in steele defense which is basically the will in the dime package.

His comp is Jevon Kerse #27 on the Cowboys. This defense is similar in some ways to that, he’s gonna be at sam, will, and strong safety idk why we keep trying to hold him to one position lol

Exactly a db that can play safety but a majority of snaps near the line of scrimmage and over TEs

“He’s LB..”
“No, he’s a Safety!..”
“No, he’s a STAR/Hybrid!”

He’s all of the above...

You move him around the field depending on the play & the coverage we’re in; you can drop him back in coverage or Blitz the pocket, you can line him up in multiple spots & use him in different sub-packages to utilize his skill set best.

Against Running QB’s, he could very easily be used a Spy to keep the QB from breaking too many long runs from contain, on Passing plays in Nickel packages he can line up at Strong Safety to cover the Seams to make sure opposing TE’s don’t get free rein against Cover 3 & 4 shells & against Running plays, drop him down in the Box at Sam Backer & let him pursue all cut back lanes to keep us from getting gashed into the 2nd level if the 4-man front doesn’t get to the RB first.

You can also have him covering the Flats & short routes over the middle.

Point is, when you have James Williams, Gilbert Frierson, Al Blades Jr & Keontra Smith those are multipurpose Defenders that you can mix up the Defensive looks with & move around the Chess Board.

yall MF would have had Sean Taylor at LINEBACKER, DERRICK Henry at SsDE, Anquan Boldin at RB and Honey Badger on the bench

yall don't give af what a player CAN DO.

His range, athleticism, speed, Coverage skills and change change of direction quicknes. He just needs to get in the weight room to get stronger and bigger to help with his block shedding. Yes right now it's probably to late to make the switch but I'm referring to the off-season we're he gets a full year to develop and learn the position.

We’ve all been saying this but just not near as good as you. Truth be told thread can close after this

Given the current state of our linebacker depth chart?

Absolutely. I would have moved him at the beginning of the summer. Sliding him down closer to the line of scrimmage allows us to get all 3 of our talented safeties on the field together.

It's not ideal...but this is the **** sandwich that Manny left us in terms of linebacker recruiting and/or lack thereof.

Position-less football, which is the new football vs having one guy just play a traditional role if he’s good enough to play others. Makes you that much more valuable if you can be a hybrid in that way.

Sean Taylor could of been a pro bowl LB if he wanted to.
You seem to not want to embrace that dudes can play in multiple roles.

As LCE describes in his post, he can play every where. Stop trying to just make him a linebacker.
