Should we move James Williams to LB?

He's got the frame to fill out, I get he plays LB some but why not move him there permanently? I think his future in the NFL is at LB not safety. Just think about how you can use him as a blitzer and covering TEs. It's probably to late to make the switch now but going into 2023 it should be under consideration

No... posters shouldn't have that much control of the team.

Why do you guys want to move our least physical DB (other than Ivey) to LB. Williams is simply not a physical player.

In games that matter, Williams needs to be playing 10-15yds max from the LOS. Come September 17 if he is in a backpedal 20-30yds deep, Miami is in a lot of trouble. He doesn't have that ability and Steele is wasting the talent he has. I do have questions about JW about what beats in his chest. Just an outsider looking in but it doesn't look like relentless work ethic to be great is important to him. Looks like he just believes he is great since thats all anyone most likely has told him.

He should stay at saftey but he needs to gain some weight so he can have better striking power at the point of attack

I think it’s still a case of a kid relying simply on his talent and not making the effort to study his playbook, and become a smarter player. You have one of the smartest players/safeties ever in sport at your disposal. Ask about film study. Spend time with TVD.

At this point I’m looking forward JW leaving for the NFL so we can have the “should we have moved him to LB” threads for the next 5-10 years.

I can’t wait.

I agree with @htownkidd. Although I think he should, in an ideal world, be moved into the box, I think he has no desire to bang like that. He likes to ball hawk and be the last line of defense, and to be a playmaker from deep.

Compare it to a guy like Kevin Durant. In the 80s/90s, a guy that tall would be expected to play as a power forward, down low with his back to the basket. Obviously, that is not true today. I think that is kinda like JW. We want him to be something he is not... at least in part because we all want to see JW, Tae & Kam play at once.

For better or for worse, it seems JW is a safety. I would like to see more physicality and consistency from him. As of now, he seems to want to be more of a splash play guy - look at the way he tackles... always trying to strip the ball, almost to the level that it looks like he is acting. Now, there's nothing wrong with wanting to strip it, but not at the expense of laying the wood and playing fundamental ball.

Still young though, and there is a high ceiling there. But he isn't an all-conference guy at this point.

Don’t think I’ve ever seen a 6’5” lanky MLB. Most are 6’2”-3, stocky and 230-240. Outside maybe.

Someone tell Strong to stop f-cking about and make this happen

Why yall keep saying this dumb ahh shiiii

Don't understand why this is a crazy idea? Safeties get moved to LB all the time and it pays off huge for them. James Williams would be a perfect match for this
No he wouldn't. Doesn't have the frame, mindset, or ability to play LB.

I don't think there are any 6'5 backers in the NFL that DONT play OLB in a 3-4
