Should we go 5 wide more often?

Homer was the 5th 'WR' plenty of times. Would be shocked if we don't see a lot of empty sets (w/ Homer split out) going forward.

Yes I noticed but the crux of my argument isn't particularly about Homer. It's about making the 5 wide set much more prominent in our offense.

I would say yes. We need to be able to find the mismatch. It was there everytime we ran the 5 wide.

The problem with 5 wide is that you always leave your QB on an Island. Richt always demands that his running backs can block well. Blitzing will be what we do not want but a team like VT can expose this strategy most of the time.

And the problem with keeping a RB in to block is that you're only sending out 4 WR's.

I can tell you through personal experience (and frustration) that sending 5 guys out on routes changes the way you call a defense.

If we go empty we still have one extra blocker if they rush 4. We're man-on-man if they blitz and rush 5. And if they rush 6 then they're in Cover-0 and good luck.

So Macho, given this teams personnell(lack of TE and RB depth) do you think going 5-wide more consistently is the way to go moving forward?

I think we ran just enough of it Saturday. I love empty, especially if you use the RB as the #3 WR and motion him in/out of the backfield.

Sending the RB out on routes from the backfield is just as good IMO though. I just know that having 5 guys running routes is much more problematic then having just 4. It's really hard for your intermediate pass defenders to get adequate depth in their drops when they have to account for a RB coming out of the backfield.

You've been bringing a lot of good stuff of the board these last couple of weeks.

Just wanted to point that out.

Thanks brother. Love talking ball.

Gotcha thanks, I actually think our spread sets were much more effective last season with Kaaya than the I-form we kept running for much of the year(which was maddening). When Richards is healthy this is a deadly unit with size and versatility. Homer has shown he can catch the ball and make big plays in the pass game and Thomas is coming on. I still wish that Berrios would be used more in the slot....

I'd love to see it more....add some motion, jet sweeps, sets, shifts etc...to offset the D...it seems like once the opposing D adjust...the O never does anything to offset them again....this is the reason Miami becomes stagnant on O IMO..gotta mix it up

Allowing Rosier to read the coverage easier and split the field in half in terms of decision making? Yes please

When we do go 5 wide, I'd like to introduce the idea of having Dallas enter for Homer 100% of the time.

We could have as many as 7 more games to play. Need to carve out some rest for Homer. Also doesn't hurt for Dallas to become more involved.
