Shannon forgot he coached at Miami

I have not hate for Randy Shannon. Guy is Miami Hurricane. Would still be here somehow if he could. Best of luck to him There are a lot of soft-shouldered, self-hating fa@@ts among our fan base that just love to show themselves and hate on former players. I've never got it. Guy played here, graduated from UM and coached here .Good luck to him. People have to work and people have to make a living. I hope he is successful at UCF.

Shannon had a lot of roles throughout his life that helped us to succeed in football. Yes he was not effective as a head coach, I get it. you guys all sound like Randy was responsible for all of our woes the last 14 years. Blame the administration and their neglect for mistreating the cash cow that is UM Football. Shannon as a HC was part of this incompetence but Shannon was a positive for our program before his stint at HC.

started by burning bridges with central and other major programs because he couldn't get over grudges. coached our first losing season since 1997, including the worst ever home loss (at that point) when closing down the orange bowl. coached at uf, negatively recruiting against us. he was better than golden, but that's like saying that getting shot in the chest is better than getting shot in the face. his tenure set the tone for almost a decade of mediocre football. gtfo.

edit: mistyped 1997 as 1979

It's bewildering to hear all the radio guys here talk about Shannon as a homerun hire, and that he will get Miami recruits to Orlando. Like he's some kind of recruiting dynamo with some huge connection to Dade county. I almost want to call in and tell them how it really is.

Yet you give him no credit for bringing in the last No. 1 Recruiting class we had. Hired staff from high school in the Miami. First FL coach I saw do that. The coaching bridges work both ways, lots of high school coaches in the tri-county are just as bad playing the prima donna role and sent all their players to other schools besides UM (please don't try and simplify this when you know what goes on down here with players and payments. Tri-county is a hot bed of talent).

The 2007 season was already a downward spiral. Regardless of who would have coached us, our talent was subpar and had been trending to mediocre. There is a reason so many freshmen played in 2008....high school seniors/college freshman were beating out 5 year Seniors at UM. If you can't recall the state of affairs back then db305 then you have not been a fan that long. Coker set the tone before Shannon and that is on the administration for promoting within instead of making the best hire at HC for the program.

There also has not been one Miami coach since Schnellenberger where one Miami high school or another had not complained that their players or team were not getting love from UM. It's current environment of recruiting. Perhaps some of these coaches bashed UM and Shannon because we wasn't playing the game or maybe we just weren't paying enough. I am sure there are several high school coaches that would complain about Richt but he has made it a priority to establish strong connections between UM and the local community.

As far as poor backyard recruiting, this was an issue before Shannon, certainly during Coker who was recruiting nationally based on stars and ignored a lot of the talent we had in our own back yard only to try and show them love after we were jilted during the recruiting process.

As mentioned, the issue was not with Coker, the issue was with UM who treated the UM football program like a second class citizen. Cheap, convenient and non-controversial was their agenda. It was this same administration that brought in Golden and just continued our mediocrity. I don't blame Coker or Shannon taking the opportunity to be HC but UM is not a place where you can learn while on the job. Notice the changes and commitment to the program once a new president came in?

This...Shalala was the worse football president ever. We didn't start using the internet for fundraising till James got here. She, and She alone, was responsible for the decline of the football program via bad hirings & the Shapiro $h!t.

You know UCF has a football board...right?

Oh, and one more notion. Randy Shannon WASN'T ready to be a head coach at the Power 5 tier. And the University knew this, and had an EASY rationalization to make him the ' scapegoat,' if football matters failed and all that. By the way, the powers that be were just too CHEAP to pay for an established, experienced head coach- and no not a Golden Boy type of head coach either!

Whatever, BuBBA! :umuni3:

He's a Hurricane. Happy for him that he's getting a chance to be a coordinator again. UCF is a good fit for him.

Respect goes both ways, and he's disrespected Miami more than he needed to if he was just doing his job.

I wished him well when he left, but that's over now. ***** him, whatever he does in life I hope he has to do it without the support of any UM people.

Regardless, I respect that hardships he had to deal with growing up and I do believe that he got shafted after getting canned by Miami. HCs are getting rewarded left and right for mediocrity meanwhile, Randy was relegated to being a position coach for 7 years after his fall from grace? That's ******.

But, like I said, UCF is a good fit for him. Not singing his praises.

I respect Randy's struggle, but he didn't have to come after us as hard as he did. And he should blame his agent if he didn't get enough of a payout when he failed at Miami. As for him at UCF or anywhere else, until I see something different I'll stay thinking he lacks the charisma to really get kids to buy in. They like him because he's real (I'm looking at you Brewster), but he's just missing something.

Personally I think it's ridiculous the way coaches get recycled. Jimbo had a terrible year and his teams have been getting progressively worse for a few years now and he get's a $75 million deal. Strong, Kiffin, and a bunch of other guys who've failed spectacularly all get mentioned when a big job opens up. No offense to Butch, but he's still getting mentioned by Miami fans 17 years after he left.

I start to wonder if the thing to do is hire lesser known coaches to 3 year deals to see how they do rather than be shackled to a big name who's failed elsewhere for multiple years and tens of millions.
