I wrote this in the other thread but when Mali got hurt, and the momentum changed, Mensah got off his rhythm.

The plays from then on were to protect from a turnover. It was actually smart, mature play calling to protect his QB and the lead.

The far bigger issue is the inability to big boy football against them by running it down their throats the way that we did at the end of last year. That MUST get corrected.
 
I was there live! He got conservative as ****! Throwing 1-2 yard passes like he still got Beck at QB. He called the game scared from the 2nd drive of the 2nd half til the end! Everyone in the crowd was ****ed & cursing. Hetherman plays his DBs too far off! That’s how Wake receivers kept running free (BIG PAUSE)

Nah playcalling was dog****, he was calling plays scarred. All basic runs and tunnel screens, nothing creative to help Mensah or the OL. Maybe move the pocket? A RB screen for the 1st time in 3 years? We badly needed at least a real FG chance (not 54 yard BS attempt) to up 16 or a TD which would have put the game out of reach.

He takes too long to adjust is my only knock. Entire second half today and national title game 1st half poor results and no adjustment . **** even after the first half against A&M Beck had to tell him to run the ball.

First half today blocked well and mensah had time and the plan worked.

This is a guy who inherited a QB who couldn’t throw until late in fall camp due to Carson's UCL surgery and still found a way to get them to a national championship by scheming around that limitation. Last year was massive for his growth as a play-caller because he was forced to lean on the run game — something that goes completely against his Air Raid roots.
In 2024 we had the best offense in college football. The only real problem was that we scored so fast we couldn’t keep our defense off the field, and that’s exactly what cost us against Syracuse. Look at what happens whenever Shannon has legitimate weapons: 2012 WVU, the Tank Dell Houston teams, and 2024. Straight video-game numbers every single time.
Right now he’s working with the most talented offense he’s ever coached. We were on pace to be better than 2019 LSU in 2024 with Cam , and I fully expect the same (or better) this year.

It was gross. There had to be a reason we kept calling screens. I do feel that Mensah was a little banged up and limited in the 2nd half. Why not put in Nickel when we were up 31-7? Or even 31-13? If Mensah can't be trusted to throw 10 yards down the field due to being hurt, then what does that say about Nickel? Dawson basically calling those screens hoping our receiver would make a play and it never happened.
 
Will just say that it’s best to have a bad half (and learn from it) and still win.

We don’t need to freak out just yet, our QB almost set the NCAA record for consecutive completions today.

I know sports talk radio is tempting but take a breathe
