Shalala is stepping down

Just hope her successor can do as much academically for the school as Dr. Donna has. (Hopefully we will get someone who wants to upgrade our sports facilities and teams so they are competitive nationally again. They certainly aren't now. How about someone from Stanford? They have good teams and great academics.)

I can't help but think this may be a devil you know, versus the devil you don't situation... There are more than enough destroy college athletics in order to reaffirm a commitment to academics types out there.

Hope for the best, prepare for the worst... And I'm an optimist...

Fortunate to have worked with President Shalala during my time @univmiami. Great leader for education. Best of luck in her retirement

A great leader SHOULD be innovative in ALL endeavours

LOL. Jesus Christ. She has raised 10x the amount of money for athletics facilities upgrades than any other president. The Hecht renovation, the Schwartz addition, the Greentree renovation, private planes for recruiting, she built the ******* BUC! Cobb, A-Rod Park... what planet do some of you live on?

Shalala became pres in 2001. The football victory fund and new Schwartz center didn't come to life until two seasons ago. 2001-2012 is over ten years of neglect.

Actuallythe Schwartz Center was announced in 2010. She addressed immediate needs first and has raised over 3 billion dollars in Momentum One and Two. From the write up on her announcement:

President Shalala’s presidency has seen an unprecedented growth in facilities totaling almost $2 billion of new construction and comprising 2.7 million square feet of projects completed or in process, plus 1.7 million of existing square feet renovated. Major projects on the Coral Gables campus include the BankUnited Center, Student Activities Center, University Village student housing, the Schwartz Center for Athletic Excellence, and the Newman Alumni Center among others. Additions to the Miller School of Medicine campus include the Clinical Research Building, University of Miami Hospital, Biomedical Research Building, and UM Life Science and Technology Park. Next month the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science will dedicate the Alfred C. Glassell, Jr. SUSTAIN Building and Marine Technology & Life Sciences Seawater Complex.

Look kill shalala all you want, but the OB going down is so not on her its pathetic. That was city of Miami, pure and simple. When exactly does a tenant fix an owners house, and then when they offer to help, its not accepted and bungled? It's killing me to have to defend certain things, but facts are facts. So sick of the Fox News or MSNBC slants on everything.

The false story lines are not necessary when there are real examples of mistakes. Know your sh*t or shut up.
**** YOU! you are wrong. She cut a back room deal with the city to move. IF YOU KNEW ANYTHING other than the garbage you want to believe, you might have a set. Obviously you don't. Go back to sleep….

LOL, dude some of these people wish Tad Foote was still the Prez. No lie. They think he was better for UM athletics.

A lot of these people don't really have any clue that we were playing ******* basketball games at the Miami Arena. The BUC was huge and one of the best things ever for UM athletics.

Our football facilities did lag behind, especially during the 2004-2008ish mark, but we've put a ton of energy into improving them. Under Paul Dee, our football program got a little stagnant in regards to facilities and all that. We're still catching up but we've been doing a great job over the last few years. The coaching staff is the the worst in 40 years, but the infrastructure has been improved 10 fold so whoever the next guy is won't be behind the 8 ball.

i'm not sure how the med school purchase of cedars hospital and the orange bowl are even related. the only thing built on the property associated with the orange bowl was marlins park and the garages. everything else has stayed the same. it's not like the money from the millers was contingent on leaving the orange bowl.

That's my question as well. How is the OB tied to the Millers? Hos does the prez let something "go" that she had no direct control over?

my only guess is that because we left the ob after the 2007 season, and the hospital was purchased in november of 2007, there is some sort of retarded conspiracy that they're connected. it's like if you were wearing a red shirt and **** your pants, then decided that the only explanation for it was wearing a red shirt, and not the undercooked mexican food you had for lunch.

we had no leverage on the city because they owned the land and set the terms of the lease, so it's not like we pushed them into giving us land in exchange for leaving the stadium to build the med campus.

I just have a feeling this is going to end really bad and that we're going to end up with a worse president than what we had, and that they're only focus is going to be on academics we might lose athletics altogether if we make the wrong hire.
