Settle down

And I also loved Hetherman going full aggression with blitz instead of a shell with all the injuries we have at corner. He said if we are going down we are going down swinging.

The reason people here are up in arms over this performance is that there are national champion expectations for this squad. And everybody here can see the glaring weakness on this team and what will hold us back from a natty (besides injuries of course). The interior of the oline is atrocious and will be our downfall. Missing on Seaton in the portal is looming large. Our only hope is that our true frosh OL can step in. That’s not a position that true frosh usually excel in. So yea, we are concerned since our expectations were to bring home our 6th
The reason people are up in arms is because we have some the most irrational fans in the country and they have absolutely no perspective about anything. Even the best team in program history had games like this, and that team would beat this year's team by 3 scores.

Look after the last 2 decades I no longer come in with expectations. I will say that this board and some of the podcast hosts got a little ahead of themselves watching us eat up bad teams who couldn’t compete with our skill players. Wake was the first team we’ve played with a pulse.

I didn’t get to finish watching the game last night. I am a little concerned some of my fears might come true

I like Cantwell, but he was a run blocking T who struggled at times in camps against top competition and it seemed like we just assumed he’d be a strong starter day 1 which wasn’t fair to him. I thought we should’ve been all in on Seaton, but I said we needed at a minimum one more solid experienced starting OL. This team had too much talent and money invested in it to roll the dice this much with inexperienced OL in my opinion.

I wasn’t big on the Omar signing. Thought he made a lot of highlights and big hits. Wasn’t sure about his coverage. Didn't expect him to take Scott’s role either tbh. Seemed like more similar to Jakobe to me, but staff seemed to think he had more potential as a blitzer and run support and liked Fitz playing centerfield. Idk the results seem mixed. Especially when Omar is playing next to LBs who don’t play great in coverage themselves.

Which leads me to the final point which is man I wish we could’ve found a way to get Rojas in here to complete the D

The issues isn’t having a closer than expected game, that happens. The issue is the glaring massive problem that is the interior of the oline that doesn’t appear to have any clear solutions.

We deserve to drop to 8ish if not lower. They are all saying its better to learn from a win than loss - but what they showed last night is we arent a playoff team. Hopefully they learn to be better at football
after our third game? smh so i guess the suckeyes are not a playoff team ethier after 3 games according to your metrics

No disagreement here. Ol absolutely has to improve, I’ve even wondered do you love McCoy or Sampson to guard and get congdon or Cantwell at tackle if that’s where they’re more comfortable.

I’m also not going to **** all over the defense, I expected wake to score a little bit, my first prediction for a final score was 51-21. We were on pace for that until we went into a shell on offense.

Dawson called a great first half, second half was terrible. He does that occasionally, glad it happened in a win. He needs to keep the pedal down even when Toney isn’t in the game. Should’ve been Barkate time.
Absolutely. Obviously we targeted Lofton in the second half because of his 2 plays in the first.. He does not have go get the ball mentality.

And maybe Dawson was trying to minimize some slight injuries that developed.

All I do know...We will have a real tough sledding going through the better ACC teams playing like we did second half.

The clear solution is a freshman still learning. Once Cantwell moves into a starting role, SJ moves to the bench and things will be fine. That said, it feels as if the staff wants him to earn that spot, which makes a ton of sense. Now, if we are moving into November and Cantwell hasn't taken that job, then I'll be worried.

Cantwell has only played at RG. Even if he takes over a starting spot it would be Buchanan’s not SJ’s.

I think that as the freshmen get more comfortable, they will supplant the weak links on the line. I think people forget that Cantwell isn't nearly as well schooled as Mauigoa was. Cantwell is learning that college football isn't the same as dominating in Missouri, the light will come on for him, give him time to earn his way into the starting lineup. Once he gets there, he will stay there until he leaves.
Yep I agree with you on that.

Its almost like having Toney on a pitch count 2nd half and not having our top 2 backs had an affect. Its clear that even when Malachi isn't getting the ball having him on the field creates opportunities for everyone else. Rb depth definitely worries me if Brown is out long term though.
That wasn't the reason we couldn't move the football.

The play calling on O completely changed. Mensah had to be hurt. Yes, Toney is fantastic, but you have enough talent in the rest of the WR room to still beat teams without him.

That penalty by Wilson when Toure destroyed the RB really gave them life.
Exactly. Miami gets that TO, it's likely that ends up being a TD, and the rout is on. Yes, Wake was able to put a little game pressure on the 'Canes, but let's stop pretending that Miami won via hail mary. It was a closer than expected, yet relatively comfortable win. That said, this staff will have a LOT of teaching tape to go over, because Miami did not play to standard in the second half, especially offensively.
It’s like I was posting last night; if Cristobal is serious about a Championship, then Film Study on Monday will have to be brutal.

Are we a perfect team, no. Is there a perfect team out there, no.

What we are is a really good football team that is replacing key starters on the ol, dl, and have lost our top 2 corners to injury. We have a lot of young guys playing their first meaningful reps and I’d say we have seen some improvement on the DL, the pass rush and pressure was great last night. Yes we need to improve on getting the qb to the ground d but Lopez is mobile qb and we were able to affect him most of the night.

Would I like to see more Cantwell, absolutely, but Miribal and Mario have earned some trust on their OL evaluations, need to keep improving but we did average close to 6ypc last night.

You’d think we lost the game with many of these threads. We have a long way to go to be a team like we were at the end of last year but have to imagine all young guys getting reps is going to help when we get Lucas and OJ back.
Ain’t no way Miami is beating Virginia , SMU or Louisville. At the minimum, we lose two games this year
