Semi OT - Ruiz Private Jet

I’ll just say Elon Musk owns a G650ER, and he’s far richer and I assume has to fly like 50x more for business.

I can’t think of an actually good reason to buy a 767 over a smaller private jet except for you plan on more people traveling in it?
…or just to show off more. It’s certainly more wasteful.

Some times you have more money than you can spend in a lifetime.

Besides, i know a guy who bought and converted an a360 to be like a flying house.... and was offered huge profit to resell it.

And that plane was the ultimate in comfort.. HUGE private bedroom to sleep/relax/fvkk, etc.

the cool thing is, its not a bad thing that a person spends their gobs on money on frivolous things.

That a360 purchase helped support a ton of jobs ranging from the plane manufacturer's employees; the employees from all the vendors that manufacture various parts; the employees that work on the furniture/furnishings that comprised the retrofitting; and the retrofitting employees.

^this guy is poor
No, this guy is most likely a “woke” jabronie.

Ruiz earned his money. It’s called Capitalism, not Marxism or Socialism.

He paid his penance by going to school a bunch of years to become an attorney, and then became extremely successful. It’s called attaining the American dream.

America isn’t perfect by a long shot, but we live in the greatest free market society (with the highest standards of living), than any other nation in the history of civilization.

Let me clarify, Air Bus is a totally separate company; I’m well aware of that. The model I saw was the 747 Dream Lifter (not in person, but a sketch & computer animation)…it was referred to as their air bus, by my cousin, not “an” Air Bus.

If u’re ever in L.A, there’s an aviation museum on the backside of LAX. I haven’t been in a while, but I’m pretty sure they r back open after Covid. My cousin worked for Boeing for yrs, man. It was his first job straight from college back in the late 80’s. He got me into planes; fondest memories of a kid w/ him was him taking me to see The Spruce Goose before it moved to Oregon, & then as a college student when I was contemplating careers, giving me tour of the Boeing facilities.

Planes r one of those marvels that don’t make sense to me, no matter the mechanics, physics, mathematics explained to me. It’s an amazing creation.

The Dreamlifter is what we call it, it’s a converted 747 that if I was the designer I would fully expect to be fired after presenting the drawings to my boss. But she flys and carries an insane cargo load. Now occasionally I will refer to it as the “delivery truck”, but never, I mean never would we dub it the air bus. Nope, not ever.

When u say “we” I’m going to assume u mean the corporation of Boeing, correct? If so, clearly I said “my cousin”, & I specifically said the 747 Dream Lifter. Lol.

There’s a reason y he used that term & it was specific to throwing shade towards them, as he said, they bit their (Boeing) style like Ja Rule bit DMX. Anyways, I hope that clarifies things, that this wasn’t a Boeing referral. I know it’s a touchy matter as Boeing & Airbus are in a heated rivalry for sky supremacy, which is y my cousin had a lot of reservations w/ their models, but that’s a whole different story.

I was just saying as someone on this site that is looking out my window at 2 Dreamlifters as we speak, we just don’t stick those 2 nasty words (air and bus) to anything we build lol. It was tongue in cheek man. That thing is huge! It doesn’t carry the weight of say an antonov 225 by no means, but it carries huge components! And what I like is we get components from suppliers in say Italy in 14 hrs or so. Air bus ships on cargo Ships from Italy to Alabama and it takes 28+ days to receive their components. Dreamlifter is an integral part to Dreamliner production no doubt. Ugly but hey, absolutely invaluable imo

If y’all had the opportunity to (comfortably) own a custom 737…you would all do it. C’mon now that’s a flex and a half.

Y’all didn’t get mad when Drake got one right?

Crazy to think that SR71 was conceived in one of those warehouses by LAX. Talk about hiding in plain site.
Engineers designing, building, and testing the engine at P&W in Jupiter were telling people they were developing a jet engine for submarines.

Again, I love what Ruiz is doing for the program and continue to support his efforts to make things better.

But the questions about his "net worth" are more than justified. The guy is rich; he may just not be billionaire rich (which is fine!). SPACs are currently getting bodied in the market, and the prospectus circulated by MSP leaves more questions than answers. The overall theme in the materials released by MSP is that the valuation is pretty absurd, and there's major questions about the revenue projections.

I know I'll get flamed because it happens any time a poster bring sup Ruiz's purported "billionaire" status, but it's a valid question. And him buying a jet doesn't change things; high-net-worth individuals lacking cash on hand (such as major real estate investors and, until Ruiz's SPAC deal closes, Ruiz himself) can finance purchases based off of the equity they possess in non-liquid assets used as collateral for those purchases. It's a common arrangement in these types of circumstances.

Anyways, I digress. Ruiz is doing great things for Miami, I just don't buy that he's a billionaire (he's not) and I have major doubts about whether that'll ever actually happen.

I got u my brotha; I wasn’t coming at u like that. I was just trying to provide clarity. It’s funny u say that u don’t use those “nasty words”, b/c I’m telling u, when he said it, it wasn’t in glowing terms, rather air quotes. It was clear this was the standard & inspiration for Air Bus’, iirc their A380. At the time it was in production.

Honestly, I never heard of the company “Air Bus” at that time. All I knew was Boeing (commercial), & Northrop (fighter jets) & my other cousin worked there for before passing away prematurely, as well.

Yeah man; that 747 had my eyes wiiiide open bro. I didn’t completely comprehend just a Marvel such a beast of an aircraft was, but sheesh. The amount of cargo it can carry w/o even a hitch of complication is awe astonishing.

Cherish that memory bro; wish I had the privilege of boarding one or just seeing one in the flesh.
747s are massive. You do not realize so much when you just board on one and go to your seat. When you are underneath a 747 on the ground next to their enormous tires looking up you really relize it. The engine housings are massive when you get inside of them. It is amazing that they even get of the ground. One the movie "Tenet " for a scene we took a decommissioned 747 and ran it over a parking lot full of real cars crushing them like beer cans and ran it into a fake two story restaurant smashing that as well. Took a couple of takes wreaking the parking lot full of cars and street lights. Had to replace all of the smashed up ones.

Similar to a lot of the "Super Yachts," a good number of private aircraft are available for charter when not in use by the owner. I'm not saying that's the case here, but many are able to take advantage of depreciation and all that jazz and offset the cost of ownership. I could see Ruiz leasing this plane out to other mega billionaires from time-to-time.

I was at London Heathrow when they had to change a tire on one of those bad boys... it was a surprisingly small jack.

Listen, I get wanting to bootlick, but let's cut the rah rah crap. Our system isn't truly a free market, it's rugged capitalism for most of us and crony capitalism for the privileged few. If it was truly a free market, tons of wealthy people and institutions would have been wiped out in 2008, but they weren't allowed to fail for the most part.

Ruiz worked hard, but when you can make billions from an idea, without any proof of it being anywhere near profitable, it's obvious that there's something wrong with the system. Hey, at least Ruiz is putting his money back into the system, most of these high end guys just hoard wealth and then complain when people get annoyed that their secretaries pay more in income taxes than they do.

I wouldn't, because I just don't care that much. I'm good with a smaller plane, because I don't live my life to flex, even now. There's a reason why I didn't run out and get the most expensive car I could afford when I started making money. I got something that was nice, but unless you actually know, it's not a head turner on name recognition.

You could not be more spot on. It is all about providing many other people with jobs that build the economy for everyone. Like last year when some people were complaining about the costs of tourists paying millions of dollars for space travel in rockets.

Stating that the money should instead go to poor people instead of providing them with better paying jobs. Some were talking about how many homeless people that money could feed instead providing them with jobs to get them off the streets. I have no idea how these people even think.

Literally just watched a video where the host recommended Skunk Works at the end. Wasn’t 45 seconds ago, lol.
Yeah it's definitely really good, universally seen as an awesome book recommended for people interested in like engineering and military ****.

Kelly Johnson (boss of Ben rich who wrote the book skunk works ) who was the head of skunk works for decades has a book that I want to read too - "more than my share of it all". Idk how good it is, but it seems like it would have great material.

Recently read the martian, which was better than the movie, and am about to read "structures , or why things don't fall down" ... Both of which are also typically recommended when people recommend skunk works...
