Semi OT: Mel tucker extension at MSU

Well yeah I knew OSU was the dream job. Just didn't know he turned down MSU. That surprises me.
Not an easy gig. MSU has had good-to-great teams and season but never sustain long. The program is often a stepping stone for coaches. Saban was there for four years, left for LSU after his fourth and only good season. Hard to recruit there.

The city is a dump is the biggest issue. MSU is a great school though, lots of money. Seems like a pretty substantial bump from Cincinnati (which is also a dump)

They must be afraid of losing him to a higher bidder, with all these openings. Agree with some of you saying it’s premature and Miami-like.

During one of their games, commentator mentioned he didn't want to leave the area. Had never heard that about him. Guessing that would mean he wants a Big 10 job?
Not sure honestly. I know a lot of people inside Michigan/MSU programs but don’t know anything about Fickell or cincy. I just know he had a big offer from MSU and turned them down. I know he wants the OSU job, but I’m sure that’ll never come open. He probably wants another premium job such as USC

This foreshadows what is going to have to happen to pull a hot coach folks. if the money isn't there to pay 7mil+ and a buyout we are talking about all the wrong candidates in these coaching threads. Better hope blood is more important than money for Mario because he will warrant every bit as much as Mel tucker on the market if he gets into the CFP and anyone else wants to make a run at him, including Oregon.

Yep. When that chick at Scarolina got 3+ million a year for basketball played by women, had a hunch it might get crazy. 10 million a year coming as a standard.

Might not be 8 mil might be 9.5.. looks like he just signed a 10 year 95 mil. Maybe they wanted to lock him in with all these coaching vacancies but WTF seems sooo high.

I wonder what effect this has on the coaching market. Canes better be ready to spend big $$$$

I stand corrected , his first coaching gig was there he was a GA under Saban.
He was a GA there so he probably left with some kind of degree or at least took classes there. Someone has probably said it's his alma mater or something so you may not be entirely wrong.

****, 8 million a year off of one year? That's like premature ejaculation.

I think he's a good coach, but that's a big number for the best coaches.
Labs at Mich St whenever Mel Tucker is mentioned.

That’s a lot of money for a fairly unproven HC. He is a good culture fit there and seems to be recruiting good there. Big Ten upcoming new TV will have them wiping there but with extra cash.

I am shocked by his success at MSU.

I'm a Chicago Bears fan and he had historically bad defenses in Chicago. Maybe the pro game isn't everybody. He's the perfect fit at MSU, though.
**** the Bears

This year…. Giants have their draft pick… otherwise just **** the Eagles
