Semi ot: James Franklin signs psu extension

Penn St. and Michigan State have some reckless ADs for approving those contracts. Mel Tucker still has time to shine. But Franklin? He's an alright coach, not elite.

If I was him, that’s exactly what I would do.

I’m not a Moorehead guy, but I would without second thought go get Tyson Helton or Kalen DeBoer at $4.5mill & let Mario walk, or if UCLA stupidly wants to get rid of Chip Kelly I’d bring him back no question.

Let Miami or some other SEC school overpay for Mario lol

I rock with you LCE but I don’t know about Chip.

Buyout terms are even more insane. It barely protects PSU from him leaving on his own (at most $12M, drops to $9M in April 2022), but if they want to get rid of him, they owe him the world: full salary x # of years left.

So if he ***** the bed the next two years and they want to fire him, they'd owe him nearly $60M

Pure insanity considering PSU is one of Fickell's preferred destinations. The AD and BoT that approved this deal need to sued for financial malpractice
Happy Valley is Coral Gables north babeeee!

They should have let him leave and went after Luke Fickell. Kudos to Franklin and his agent. He had his name in just about every job lol
What’s more impressive? What Like is doing at Cincy in the JR Big East? Or what Franklin did at a place like vandy? Since we are prisoners of a minuscule stretch of ball…we be really interesting to see what fickell does was this vet team is replaced last szn along with his QB..I bet it takes a hit just like Campbell at ISU and that Indiana coach..gotta strike when the irons hot

Ain’t nobody hollering bout the great coaching job Allen and campbell are doing..both did themselves a disservice by not leaving a year earlier imo

This reminds me of NBA free agency. A lot of coaches getting overpaid right now.

In three years, he’ll be on the hot seat.

Excellent work by their agents.

I rock with you LCE but I don’t know about Chip.
I’m not talking about for Miami, I mean for Oregon.

I wouldn’t take Chip Kelly in Miami if he was coaching for free, but if you’re Oregon & you can get Chip for cheaper then it would make sense for them to take him back.

Imagine if Butch could have gotten these contractual terms in 2000...

Wow, he’s literally an 8-4 guy since he’s been there. I’ve never understood the adulation he receives. Anyway IMO this, coupled with the big name jobs currently open, virtually assure Manny is back unless he loses to Duke and the bowl. Just my .02

I understood what you meant. I knew you wasn’t talking about Miami.

Even for Oregon. Chip hasn’t been the same since he left the NFL. Just want to see your point of view.

After speculation of James Franklin & Penn St being on the verge of divorce, PSU gives Franklin a 10 year $75 million dollar extension. He’ll make $7.5mill per year with up to $1million in incentives (Win totals, division & conference titles etc..).

This was a well played move by Franklin & his agent, just about two weeks ago it was a forgone conclusion he was leaving Penn St with his name being mentioned as a top candidate for both the USC & LSU jobs, but in classic James Franklin fashion used the situation to get a better deal, he did the exact same thing in 2019 lol.

Talk about paying for mediocrity. This guy seems like a flake. Congrats to him for raping PSU. No pun intended.

Fickell would probably produce the same results for 2.5M less. I don't think Fickell is the next Saban, but neither is Franklin. Who knows.. maybe in a few years 7.5M is a bargain. But right now, PSU looks foolish

Just seeing more and more reasons we should've canned James in the spring, immediately launched our search for a new AD who we'd have in place by now could've let Diaz go and had a serious search going instead of now watching name after name come off the board.

As long as USC & Washington remain in rebuilding mode, the Oregon job is probably one of the easiest P5 jobs in the nation. As long as you’re competent & can field a halfway decent team you’ll win there.
Think the issue is that USC is about to walk away from this carousel with a much better coach/recruiter than Clay Helton so you can’t bank on them still being down. No idea what UW does with their search.

That’s fair.

If I’m Oregon he wouldn’t be my first choice, but if he comes available I could see them going to get him back because he’s done a pretty good job at UCLA this year & given how bad the Pac-12 is they probably believe he could go back up there & win.

Things didn’t end on bad terms with him at Oregon iirc, but idk what his current relationship with Phil Knight is, if they’re not cool then naw that wouldn’t happen lol.

His agent is a beast, you can tell the off-season is nearing when he starts leaking his name out as interested in jobs. Then a raise.

Hes also one of the most overrated coaches in cfb
Jimmy Sexton DA GAWD, that man gets his coaches paid
