2029 Sekou Toure, ATH, Pleasantville New Jersey (Now, Miami, FL @ Columbus)

I need Moure Toures on Miami!
black lives matter wtf GIF

even though Mendoza ended up being the superior qb to Beck, I also wonder if he would have won the opener against ND. If Miami loses to ND plus the inevitable inexplicable midseason loss to a mediocre team, we don’t make the playoffs (not going to get the spot over ND even if we both have 2 losses). Nothing at all against Mendoza, he is clearly the better Qb over an entire season, but Beck wasn’t asked to do anything in the opener except take care of the ball. Defense did the rest. I would have been nervous that Mendoza in the opener in his hometown against ND could have pressed a little too much since he doesn’t know what kind of team he has and thinks he has to make plays to win. So maybe Mendoza was the obvious choice if picking a QB for the full season and the championship, but Beck was the right choice for the opener. And without the W in the opener, we don’t make the playoffs.
From Mendoza’s retelling, it was UGA that was the real threat to IU during the portal.

Agreed on Beck etc. Love what he did for us. Mendoza wasn’t perfect either i.e. Iowa, Penn State, OSU games. And that Old Dominion season-opener he actually struggled when they won 27-14; ODU had some dreadful turnovers tho.

I think UGA also went after him soon after he entered the portal. Miami had a bunch of QBs they wanted before Mendoza. My guess is that if Cristobal had called Mendoza the minute he entered the portal and said “I want you to be UMs QB, you are our 1st and only choice” he would have been a Cane.

Sekou Toure is already establishing himself as one of the best athletes in the country regardless of class. Ranked as the No. 2 athlete and No. 8 overall recruit in 2029, Toure is a fascinating prospect at 6-foot-4, 200 pounds. The Miami (Fla.) Columbus product has experience playing everything from safety to linebacker to wide receiver. “I feel like I could play any position at the next level,” Toure said. “I’ll play anywhere. It doesn’t really matter to me.”

“It’s a family at Miami,” Toure said. “Every time I go out there, the coaches know me. They all show me love. It just feels like it’s a family at Miami.”
“He told me it’s my story and my decision,” Sekou said. “He doesn’t want to force me to go there. But he’s told me some really good things about the program.” Sekou hopes to attend at least one Miami game this season and has high expectations for the program. “I feel like they are going to win the national championship,” Sekou said. “That’s what I’m expecting from them this season.”

Overall, Sekou is taking a measured approach early on in his recruitment. “I don’t have any favorites right now,” Sekou said. “I’m just going to let my recruitment play out and see how things go.”

Its pretty awesome how our transfers are true canes. Not all programs 1 year or 2 year rentals rep the program the way ours do. Ward, Beck, Scott, Thomas, Mesi to name a few. Theres something really right with our culture.
