Seems Polendey has passed Irvin at TE

Irvin II is actually a good athlete. When he made catches last year, I could see that he was much more fluid and athletic than Herndon. I would have to remind myself who it was when I saw him snatch the ball and turn up field quickly.

If he’s lazy, uninspired, and entitled then that’s why he won’t play. He has potential.

this board is funny. they have pages of threads on Trayone Gray and Lawrence Cager like they are studs yet Irvin is already a lost cause lol

Posters have a tendency to throw certain players on a pedestal. As it relates to Gray and Cager, we've never had to question their work ethic and effort. Gray just didn't work out much at this level; Cager was set back by a serious ACL injury, but came on late last season and showed flashes of what he could do.

No. He wasn't.

This! I want to see these two find success because they've busted their butts for it. This type of stuff inspires a locker room. You want your guys to know that hard work pays off and that sometimes it is worth it to stick around for one more year. And it lets the starters know that the dogs are always nipping at their heels.

Someone's in the bottle a little early today.

Lmfaoooooo yo you can’t be serious. Go back and watch Herndon’s 40+ yd TD against VT. Irvin not doing that with his gut, he probably wouldn’t even catch it in the first place.

As as another user alluded to in another thread, Mallory has loads of potential but he weighs less than some of our WRs, so it' unlikely he gets used as an inline tight end. It's also a little unrealistic to expect Jordan to even be an average inline blocker right away. Yea it's clear that Irvin Jr may not live up to his father's name, but the same people bashing him now are the same ones who bashed the Langam's and Cager's of the world only to eat crow later when they make a play. Maybe at least wait until the Fall before you write him off.

Jordan can already be a good blocker at the college level, & he'll become dominant as he adds strength. It's one of his best skills. Just wish he'd have enrolled early - learning the playbook & being ready mentally is a different matter

And Polendey is not from GT in that he is lean and can run. Catching is all about coaching/technique and focus. Remember what the catching coach did for Leonard Hankerson AT Miami? It's possible.

Mr. Polendy, I assure you that your son is receiving great coaching. If you'd like to pony up some cash for a "catching coach" I'm sure Richt will be all ears. Until then, just enjoy Brian being 1/2 on the depth chart as opposed to 3/4 once the real TEs come in.

One or both of these guys are going to have to contribute even after the freshmen get here. Jordan may be able to step in right away and be the regular tight end but Mallory is smaller than some of our current wideouts and won't have an impact as a blocker yet. One of these guys is going to be called upon in 2 TE sets, especially short yardage situations.

Tonio? You think I'm the pappy? Just tryna see one of our schollys make a difference. NOM SAYIN?

aint gone lie though, those new tight ends... one is skinny and the other is quite average when it comes to athleticism. I'm pulling my hair out too..

People ripping Irving because he isn't his dad and he isn't Njoku.

He's a good third down target and situational player. He was never overly athletic or a great blocker and I don't think he ever will be. We don't need to kill him for that.

I'm not sure that's a fair portrayal. I think most are disappointed with Irvin2 because he doesn't seem to be willing to work hard, at all.

He's got the starting TE job at the University of Miami, TEU, literally just sitting there, his for the taking, and yet he can't even seem to come into spring practice with his body right and ready to perform the simple yet important act of catching the ball. Sure, his talent may be limited, but that's not why Canes fans criticize him. It's because, as Cribby pointed out in a post right before yours, he seems to be lazy and entitled.

He's taking **** for granted. Not only is Irvin Jr. not properly looking out for his own football career, he is disrespecting The U.
