Is Gurvan Hall and DSmith too much of the same type player or would they both be able to play safety at the same time? I’m assuming Gurvan is Free and Smith is Strong, but I haven’t followed their HS careers close enough to know where they would be better suited.

I’m assuming since Smith was a striker last year that’s be no problem

Gurvan has the instincts and ability to play strong or free safety. Derrick smith showed some ball hawking ability in his high school film so I feel A little better about his cover ability than let’s say a guy like Amari carter who I like At safety as well

Bubba will start SS going into the VT game anyway. Until then D Smith will be fine

Pretty sure they both have good cover skills, which is probably what has set Smith apart from Carter and Hall from Knowles. Best case scenario is Bolden comes in and supplants both Carter and Knowles as the primary backup at both positions. Knowles gets relegated to special teams and Carter is used in blitz packages.

Can Carter move to the striker position to see more playing time or does he potentially get buried in the depth chart at S?

not if whoever is starting off the season is doin their job. if we're playing well back there, bubba aint starting anything

LOL They will all play and if he out performs he will start. There aint no jobs out there. Whoever gives you the best chance to win is the only thing that matters.

lol yeah that's profound, thanks.

Just looking at their body types, Gurvan would be best suited as the SS with Smith as the Free.

****, when is the last time we had a good FS? Seems like all of our successful guys have been closer to the LOS.

I miss the days of having a ballhawk back there playing center field.

Maybe you missed the part where you actually said the opposite. 23 and counting....

Agree with this. I expect Gurvan to lock down one of the safety spots. If Derrick and/or Carter are rolling nicely at the other spot, I could see Bubba getting on the field plenty still, but rotating between playing some corner and spelling Gurvan when he needs a breather or gets knicked. This would be the ideal world, really.
