Secondary Balled Out

I don't know either. Just bad alignment/formation on that play and Florida took advantage. Don't know if we were suppose to have another defender over on that side pre-snap? Even if Harris gets to the outside, it's still a good chunk of yards for UF, but probably not a touchdown.

Perhaps one of our posters that's really good at doing these breakdowns can explain what happened on that play. Was somebody out of position? Wrong assignment by Bissainthe and Harris? Or just a good play call by Florida against that alignment? Honestly, we looked beat before the snap.
Didn't help we did an ILB blitz with Kiko, and had out EDGE to that side looping inside on like a twist which made it an easy seal block. Had like 3 Lineman blocking Wes and Harris, and Harris took a bad angle.

@Lance Roffers usually does a detailed breakdown of key plays in the games. I’m sure he will dissect it.

Was a good playcall and just bad alignment from the jump from us, jaden could have had better angle to stop the td at least but that was gonna be a big gain just off pre snap alignment imo

The whole defense was so ******* good, man. I just cannot say enough about these coaches and players. So prepared, so focused, so many dudes doing their jobs, Guidry had Billy and Mertz in a ******* blender all day. Just a masterclass defensively.

That is not a bad offensive team. They’re not great, but they’re nowhere near as bad as we made them look.

Mertz finished 11/20 for 91 yards and a pick. That’s 55% completions and 4.6 yards per attempt. A rating of 83.2.

Last year, his WORST game was 61.9% completions
His WORST game was 6.7 YPA.
His WORST game was a 137 rating.
He threw at least 1 TD in every single game last year.

That was the worst game he’s played since he got there and it’s not even close. Oh, and we sacked his *** 3 times and knocked him out.

Absolutely spectacular defensive performance. They only got 4.61 yards per play and 261 total yards. In the 2023 season, those numbers would’ve ranked 6th and 3rd in the entire country. Absolutely smothered these clowns.

Very interested in what TAMU does there in two weeks. As much as I hate to say it, Florida fans are overreacting to the loss because 1) we curb stomped their season like Brian owning Stewie money, and 2) they can’t fathom a world where Miami is a sound football team. It would not surprise me if UF won that game.

Unrelated, but every time I see Graham Mertz I’m gonna think, “Mmmm, that’s good OJ.”

This was a good first game, but the secondary will be challenged by better QB’s during the season. Mertz loves to check down.

But this is how you want to start and hopefully build confidence and continuity.
he truly is the 5-star general of Checkdown Charlies. But soon as UM went up 17-3, you can tell his internal clock was really sped up

DraftKings now has Miami with the 9th best odds to win the national championship. 25/1. Only teams with shorter odds are UGA, Taint, Texas, Oregon, Bama, Ole Miss, ND and Penn State.

OJ played 29 snaps and did not hear his name called one time.
I had the same thought. Incredible for that kid and our program that he’s playing like that already.

But truly, not just him, but didn’t really hear anyone’s name called out in a bad way on defense. Amazing what discipline does.

Fwiw the PFF grades other than for Mish we’re not good on coverage. Thankfully mertz was rough and our DL played great.

They made plays for sure but Guidry was daring mertz to go downfield and the oc to call for it and they couldn’t do it or execute it.

It’s okay, good to keep them humble but it has to get better. Same for OL on run blocking (pass blocking was spectacular but on actual runs only 3.7 per carry vs over 5 last season factoring out cam ward)
