Secondary Balled Out

This was a good first game, but the secondary will be challenged by better QB’s during the season. Mertz loves to check down.

But this is how you want to start and hopefully build confidence and continuity.
Tbh there really aren’t any really good qbs on the schedule. Drones is ok but vt weapons are meh. Real test will probably be Louisville even though shough isn’t all that

Safeties who ended up singled up against inside WRs - depending on the coverage - did a way better job than I anticipated. UF smartly ran some corner routes at them and, between the rush and our prep, the Safety’s steps were clean and smothered the attempts. If that continues, it will be a wholly different defense than we saw last year.

That dline. Mertz was seeing ghost. I think the dline will cover up whatever Perceived deficiencies,

Yeah, Harris tried providing help inside instead of keeping outside contain as the last defender. Good learning moment so he doesn't make the mistake later in the season when we play an actual quality team!
@JG13 i was watching Bissainthe on the replay and never focused on Harris on the replay. Looked to me like Wes got sucked inside with no outside help. I’m not sure it was one or the other, maybe both?

Yep. If we can force teams into 3rd and 5 or longer, we will protect the d-backs with our Dline because the time it will take to consistently complete passes downfield will result in too much pressure form our d-ends. Barron and Alston were balling out today. It feels like Phillips and Roche all over again.

Harris was a level deeper than Wes who had already gone inside to stop the RB. Harris then started cutting inside to help too and left the entire edge undefended. He had a really good game otherwise.

I don't know either. Just bad alignment/formation on that play and Florida took advantage. Don't know if we were suppose to have another defender over on that side pre-snap? Even if Harris gets to the outside, it's still a good chunk of yards for UF, but probably not a touchdown.

Perhaps one of our posters that's really good at doing these breakdowns can explain what happened on that play. Was somebody out of position? Wrong assignment by Bissainthe and Harris? Or just a good play call by Florida against that alignment? Honestly, we looked beat before the snap.
