SEC is going to be more corrupt then it already is...

But it can make the sec better then what they are
And that would be the death of college football. Honestly, I'm past the age of caring one way or the other. The SEC has been getting away with cheating for years, while everyone else is watched for the smallest of misdeeds. The NCAA has always been behind it, deciding who is allowed to cheat and who isn't. Even going as far as investigating Miami for YEARS in order to help certain other cheaters cherry pick talent from our back yard. It was obvious then, and even more obvious now, what they were trying to do.

So yeah, at least now it will all be out in the open.

Yea it’s beyond corrupt where I get rage from it but there is nothing anyone can do, I was hoping they would burn it down the gov but with this rule it’s just to cover the secs cheating ways. That’s all this is

I understand the large market argument but honestly think this will actually benefit the SEC schools more. They've already shown a willingness and ability to buy off recruits for a long time and "better" than us, Texas, USC etc. They all have larger alumni networks and depending how the new rules are implemented a much easier way to keep doing what they were already doing but at a larger rate. Football players in general aren't very marketable, only about 5% in the NFL will make over 75-100k in endorsements per year, so I think a market like Miami or LA is not really beneficial, because the overwhelming majority of businesses will have no interest. Whereas in a college town that's all there is and they'll do everything they can to attract top recruits and make them celebrities there.

Now that college Athletes can be paid for the likeness it makes it a lot easier to drop those bags. Boosters can literally give a friend money and tell them to offer so and so player 100K for his autograph and it's totally legal now
Sure. Or...

Booster A can tell Jonathan McFiveStar that if he signs, he will get a 90% cut off the sale of 100,000 t-shirts bearing his name.

Jonathan McFireStar agrees and signs with the SEC school.

Booster B buys all 100,000 t-shirts.

Months later, researchers at the McMurdo station in Antarctica discover thousands of penguins clad in shirts bearing the likeness of Johnny McFireStar.

While it’s true that SEC schools will continue to buy recruits They will have legal competition from other schools especially in big markets. It won’t matter as much to go to Bama as a means of getting “paid” when you can go to a Miami or USC an also get paid and legally.

The tri-county population is pushing 7million and we only put 30k in the seats per week unless FSU or ND comes to town, we don’t have the fan support here that larger state schools do despite the large population down here. Same thing goes for USC, people don’t care as much in larger cities and this isn’t going to make people/businesses in these large markets suddenly run out and start wanting to endorse collegiate athletes

News flash, sec is already corrupt. It’s a MONOPOLY right now with the way they get top recruits let’s be real. This will level the playing field a little bit but won’t be the final solution. This does help Miami though

I live in Los Angeles and people do care and they will care more when business start using their best players in marketing. Most of the UM Alumni are spread out all over the US particularly in big cities but we are still averaging about 50k this year.

We’re not close to 50k butts in seats, that’s just the stated number of tickets that had been sold. The average person in the tri county area can’t name one UM player, it’s the complete opposite in Tuscaloosa, Baton Rouge, happy valley, college station etc. There aren’t that many dolphins players doing endorsements down here I don’t see it being a game changer for us, I hope I’m wrong however. I think the large market argument benefits the superstar generational player, not the average good to great player

Probably Greenpiece will send a ship and complain about thousands of drowned penguins who get tangled in oversized shirts.

Money already runs freely in the SEC. There was enough proof to arrest the booster from LSU but did the NCAA do anything?

No. This allows the rest of college football to fart without going on probation
Well damnit we can fart to with no worry. We can trademark born in Dade played in Dade stayed in Dade 🙌🏾

I've seen a lot of the "college players can be paid" stuff, especially from media outlets, but that ain't the case at all. What the NCAA released was just a PR thing for the most part (and it worked). The wording that's sketchy is they are considering that players will have an "opportunity" to profit off of their likeness "in a manner consistent with the collegiate model". If y'all trust the NCAA to greenlight kids taking endorsement deals left and right then you're nuts. They won't give up power that easily, especially because in the press release they said they wanted to re-affirm that athletes are students and not employees of the unviersity.

tl:dr this was a PR stunt because they were backed into a corner, nothing of consequence has happened (yet), but we might get a NCAA football game woooo

This is the start of the end of the NCAA. The writing is on the wall......

If anything this will bring the spotlight on under the table dealings. Because with all the money that will flow from endorsements the IRS will certainly put a lot of effort into watching who's dirty and who's not.

My thoughts

1. Sec already pays. Now more non sec teams can pay. 50k and live in Bama vs 50k and live in Miami.

2. Just has to be enough business that like to advertise with college players.

3. Could die quick if paid freshmen sucks. Lots of wasted money going to be changing hands.

4. Do players go to the best coach/system to boost their play and get paid more? Do we have that system?
