Season Outlook: 2021

Look, I would have loved a win, but to listen to everyone thinking the world is ending because we lost to Alabama 44-13, you all need to remember that osu lost to them in the NC Game last year 52-24. They are simply on another level and to judge our entire season off this game is a bit much, bordering on idiotic. There are very few teams, any year, that can compete with them. Until Saban retires/dies, I don't see that changing.
So long post short, step away from the ledge, don't jump, there is plenty more out there.

This isnt a hypothetical discussion…it is actually going to play out so I’m not sure why folks on either side get so anxious towards each other. Personally, I don’t think we are as bad as we looked last weekend nor do I think we are somehow going to run the table and win the conference. But who the **** knows so let’s all have/share our opinions and enjoy the ride together.

2019 after the gaytor opener: “We’re running the table! Rest of the schedule is a sleepwalk”

Your expectation has only happened once in the last +decade. And no, we do not have the ability with Mandy at the helm.
I believe the go to phrase was "no other teams have the same/better athletes, we roll"

Guess UNC, Central Michigan, VT, UVA, GT, Pitt, FIU, Duke, and La Tech didn't get the memo.

JFC.

I'll update each week as season progresses (injuries, teams get better/worse, etc...)

Bama - likely loss ✅
App State - toss up*
Mich St - likely loss
Central Conn - likely win
UVA - toss up
UNC - likely loss
NC State - likely loss
Pitt - toss up
GT - toss up
FSU - toss up
VT - likely loss
Duke - likely win

*scored correct if either team wins by 10 or less, scored incorrect if greater than 10
Ive been calling it 6-6 forever

There’s a mope thread for this.

What was the spread against FIU?

I'm sure you'll enjoy seeing all the red Xs for how wrong I am.

I hope you are right and will gladly post them.
FIU was 2 years ago. New roster. New coaches. No doubt it was one of the worst losses in our history but to base this years performance on a game that took place 2 years ago is just - well dumb.

A lot of posters on here are hypocrites. I need you guys to go back and look at the “Bama vs UM prediction” thread. More than half the posters thought we would get blown out. (Meaning lose by more than 3 TDs) Now the entire board is whining for 4 days straight like they are shocked!

This game won’t define the season. Season starts against App state. Except for the “15-0” crowd everyone else mostly had us going 10-2/11-1/9-3. That is absolutely still on the table especially with how the ACC coastal is looking.

Losing like that in the first game of the season is deflating...for us and for the players. Our guys are young, successful athletes, at least to this point in their lives...some with fragile egos...they don't know how to handle getting shown up on national TV like that. Not only does it plant some doubt in their minds for the rest of the season, but now every team we play will have the blueprints that Saban's minor league NFL operation & it's army of scouts & analysts drew up to exploit our holes & run a train on them to the tune of 44-13. Scheduling this game was moronic.

All things considered, I expect a mediocre season. 8-4, 7-5. I hope they show some fight & prove me wrong.

You're giving yourself a lot of rope with the "toss-up" definition.
Forget Appy State. If we go up to UVA or Pitt and have have a 150 yard advantage, are winning by 14-17 through most of the game, and they get a late TD your going to claim a W for a toss-up game?

Assuming toss-ups are 50/50 games, you're predicting the Canes to go 5-7/4-8.
I disagree with that.

And lastly, your note: I'll update each week as season progresses (injuries, teams get better/worse, etc...).
If we win 42-17 on Saturday you're predictions will change?
If so, why post the following games?

I'm sticking with 10-2.
Our Canes will handle Michigan State as they welcome me back to HRS.
I do think UVA will be tight. Pitt, not so much.
Our D will get home against UNC and FSU.
VT doesn't have an offense and they won't have Metalica at HRS.
I'm also sticking with NC State as our conference loss.

Gentleman's bet:
The Canes will be closer to 10-2 than 5-7.
Good?

Good?
1) Yes. Same for the inverse right?

2) Ok. Make the case the case for today as I did, and of course we'll re-adjust each week as new information becomes available

3) Yes. As new info comes, of course it has to be updated for better or worse

4) I love your optimism, wish I shared it

5) We'll see won't we?

6) Ok, and ok (so you somewhat agree with me I think)

7) We'll see and we'll see

8) Without Metallica, clearly VT is doomed! 🙄🙄🙄

9) Again, I think we agree (today anyway)

10) For today, based on futility of last game, sure I'm good. Like I said, let's revist each week.

The outlook is based on a sum of our Canes body of work recently that is relevant (at least to me). They change said body of work, outlook changes along with it.

Easy.
